Over the past decade, ecologists and physiologists alike have acknowledged the importance of environmental heterogeneity. Meaningful predictions of the responses of organisms to climate will require an explicit understanding of how organismal behavior and physiology are affected by such heterogeneity. Furthermore, the responses of organisms themselves are quite heterogeneous: physiology and behavior vary over different time scales and across different life stages, and because physiological systems do not operate in isolation of one another, they need to be considered in a more integrated fashion. Here, we review case studies from our laboratories to highlight progress that has been made along these fronts and generalizations that might be made to other systems, particularly in the context of predicting responses to climate change.

Understanding the intricate relationship between land use/land cover (LULC) transformations and land surface temperature (LST) is critical for sustainable urban planning. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of LULC and LST across Delhi, India, using thermal data from Landsat 7 (2001), Landsat 5 (2011) and Landsat 8 (2021) resampled to 30-m spatial resolution, during the peak summer month of May. The study aims to target three significant aspects: (i) to analyse and present LULC-LST dynamics across Delhi, (ii) to evaluate the implications of LST effects at the district level and (iii) to predict seasonal LST trends in 2041 for North Delhi district using the seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) time series model.

A Python-scripted software tool has been developed to help study the heterogeneity of gene changes, markedly or moderately expressed, when several experimental conditions are compared. The analysis workflow encloses a scorecard that groups genes based on relative fold-change and statistical significance, providing additional functions that facilitate knowledge extraction. The scorecard reports highlight unique patterns of gene regulation, such as genes whose expression is consistently up- or down-regulated across experiments, all of which are supported by graphs and summaries to characterize the dataset under investigation.

Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in coordinating immune responses by linking innate and adaptive immunity through their exceptional antigen-presenting capabilities. Recent studies reveal that metabolic reprogramming-especially pathways involving acetyl-coenzyme A (acetyl-CoA)-critically influences DC function in both physiological and pathological contexts. This review consolidates current knowledge on how environmental factors, tumor-derived signals, and intrinsic metabolic pathways collectively regulate DC development, subset differentiation, and functional adaptability.

The nanoscale environment within the void spaces of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can significantly influence the photoredox catalytic activity of encapsulated visible-light photoredox catalysts (PCs). To compare two isostructural PC@In-MOF systems, three cationic Ru(II) polypyridine complexes were successfully encapsulated within the mesoscale channels of the anionic framework of InTATB (HTATB = 4,4',4''--triazine-2,4,6-triyltribenzoic acid), which features a doubly interpenetrated framework structure. This encapsulation yielded three heterogenized visible-light PCs, RuL@InTATB, where L = 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), or 2,2'-bipyrazine (bpz).
