Article Abstract

In this study, two phenol compounds, magnolol and honokiol, were extracted from and identified by LC-MS, H- and C-NMR. The magnolol and honokiol were shown to be effective against seven pathogenic fungi, including (Fr.) Keissl, (Link) Thom, f.sp. solani, J. Sheld, Schltdl., Miyabe & G. Yamada, and J.G. Kühn, with growth inhibition of more than 57%. We also investigated the mechanisms underlying the potential antifungal activity of magnolol and honokiol. The results showed that they inhibited the growth of in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, magnolol and honokiol treatment resulted in distorted mycelia and increased the cell membrane permeability of , as determined by conductivity measurements. These results suggest that magnolol and honokiol are potential antifungal agents for application against plant fungal diseases.

Honokiol (HON) and magnolol (MAG), structural isomers from , exhibit notable anticancer activity, particularly against head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, due to their high lipophilicity, their intravenous administration is challenging. This study aimed to develop HON- and MAG-loaded intravenous (IV) nanoemulsions using commercial lipid preparations with varying fatty acid compositions.

Tetrahydromagnolol (THM) is a bioactive compound derived from . Although other compounds from this plant, such as magnolol and honokiol, have shown significant anticancer potential, the anticancer activities of THM remain unreported. This study aims to investigate the anticancer effects and underlying molecular mechanisms of THM in pancreatic cancer cells.

This study presents an integrated experimental and theoretical investigation of two pharmacologically significant neolignans-magnolol and honokiol-with the aim of characterizing their structural and spectroscopic properties in detail. Experimental Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), and nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectra were recorded and analyzed. To support and interpret these findings, a series of density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations were conducted using several hybrid and long-range corrected functionals (B3LYP, CAM-B3LYP, M06X, PW6B95D3, and ωB97XD).

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Zhengqi Tablets (ZQP), derived from the "Huoxiang Zhengqi Powder" in the Song dynasty's "Taiping Huimin Ju Fang", have been endorsed by the Expert Consensus on Traditional Chinese Medcine Diagnosis and Treatment of New Coronavirus Infection in Shanghai (Spring Edition, 2022).

Aim Of The Study: The precise mechanisms underlying the efficacy of ZQP remain incompletely elucidated. To address this gap, we utilized a comprehensive approach integrating computer-aided virtual screening and biological validation to identify the active monomer within ZQP responsible for its anti-coronavirus properties.
