Article Abstract

This study targets the development of a nursing clinical data model for neuromuscular processes. To achieve this purpose, content analysis based on Bardin's perspective was performed on the Portuguese nursing local customizations regarding neuromuscular processes, with the International Classification for Nursing Practice concepts and the ISO 18104:2014 used as encoding rules. From analysis of the data, a total of 1766 diagnoses were related to neuromuscular processes. After application of exclusion criteria, a corpus with a total of 900 diagnoses was subjected to content analysis. After application of the encoding rules, a total of 81 context units were obtained, and through an inductive approach, were defined into three categories: clinical findings (e.g. aphasia); negative judgment diagnoses (e.g. impaired communication); transition properties (e.g. preparation and knowledge). These interpretations were validated by experts in the field. This study not only demonstrates the need to standardize data, but also the importance of neuromuscular processes in nursing practice. We hope this study will guide the definition of a nursing clinical data model that will help in increasing complexity in the level of care provided with high impact in the patient's quality of life.

Background: Single-leg stance requires pelvic stability, largely supported by the hip abductors. Differences in hip abductor activation between sexes and individuals with or without musculoskeletal conditions may relate to abductor weakness. However, the relationship between hip abduction strength and muscle activation during stance, and whether this is moderated by sex, remains unclear.

International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) consensus statement on training and testing in competitive alpine and freestyle skiers and snowboarders.

BMJ Open Sport Exerc Med

August 2025

Amsterdam Collaboration on Health and Safety in Sports, IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health, Department of Public and Occupational Health, Amsterdam Movement Sciences, Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

To enhance performance, increase resilience and prevent injuries, training and testing (T&T) are the most important strategies for preparing athletes for the demands of their sport. However, for competitive snow sports such as alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, there is little evidence and a lack of international harmonisation of current best practices. This consensus statement, commissioned by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), aims to provide recommendations for the physical and psychological T&T of competitive alpine and freestyle skiers and snowboarders within National Ski and Snowboard Associations.

Background: Diagnostic wandering and impasse are major challenges for rare disease management. This study describes the characteristics of patients with rare neuromuscular diseases (RNMDs) without a diagnosis being managed by the French national network for RNMDs (FILNEMUS).

Methods: Data for RNMD patients managed by FILNEMUS centers between January 2017 and November 2022 were extracted from the French National Rare Disease Database (BNDMR).

Fipronil is an insecticide broadly used in agriculture and flowage and has been largely detected in aquatic ecosystems, threatening the health and development of fish. This present work investigated the neurotoxic and osmoregulatory potential of acute exposure to fipronil, emphasizing alterations of enzyme, histopathological, and morphophysiological activities in the brain and gills of Colossoma macropomum. The fish were exposed to the control (without fipronil) and exposed conditions, added fipronil in concentrations of 40 µg L (F40) and 160 µg L (F160) for 96 h, following the collection of plasma, white muscle, brain, and gills for analysis.

Objective: A revision of the 2017 EULAR-ACR myositis classification criteria, namely EULAR-ACR funded Myositis Revision of Classification (MyoROC) project, is currently underway involving a large international group of experts. In the first phase of this project, we identified additional items to be tested in the criteria.

Methods: We distributed an electronic survey to International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies (IMACS) members to identify new items.
