The interaction of pollutants with nanomaterials has attracted attention due to the extensive application of nanomaterials. In this study, the adsorption behavior of PFOS on nano-alumina with different shapes was investigated. First, the adsorption isotherms and kinetics of PFOS on alumina nanoparticles (NPs) and nanowires (NWs) were measured to calculate thermodynamic parameters. The effects of solution chemistry (e.g., pH, ionic strength, and the presence of humic acid) on adsorption were further studied. The different aggregation behavior of alumina NPs and NWs were the critical factor for PFOS adsorption, as demonstrated through dynamic light scattering (DLS) experiments. This study is the first to investigate the aggregation effects on PFOS adsorption on nanomaterials and the results should be useful in identifying the important roles of shape and aggregation of nanomaterials on the fate of organic pollutants in the environment.

Cadmium (Cd) contamination in water poses a critical global challenge. A novel nanocomposite, montmorillonite (Mt)-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron (Mt-nZVI), synthesized by liquid phase reduction, offers a promising method for effectively removing Cd. The material underwent characterization through various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM).

Ether-based electrolytes are widely acknowledged for their potential to form stable solid electrolyte interfaces (SEIs) for stable anode performance. However, conventional ether-based electrolytes have shown a tendency for cation-solvent co-intercalation phenomena on graphite electrodes, resulting in lower capacity and higher voltage platforms compared to those of neat cation insertion in ester-based electrolytes. In response, we propose the development of weakly solvating ether solvents to weaken the interaction between cations and solvents, thereby suppressing co-intercalation behavior.

Development of suitable carbohydrate-decorated, biocompatible, and stimuli-responsive fluorescent microgels that can selectively bind and detect proteins (such as lectins) is an important research topic. Herein, we report the development of mannose-decorated, dual-stimuli (temperature and pH)-responsive fluorescent poly(aminoamide) microgels, which can selectively bind to and thereby detect the presence of concanavalin A (Con A). The resultant stimuli-responsive microgels have a lower critical solution temperature (VPTT) of 37.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare nitrous oxide (N2O) vs virtual reality (VR) as methods for reducing pain and anxiety during a dental injection. The primary objectives were to assess acute changes in stress responses by comparing salivary cortisol levels between the 2 groups and differences in injection pain scores.
Methods: A total of 132 female subjects serving as their own control received maxillary lateral incisor infiltration injections with the use of either N2O or a VR headset during separate appointments spaced at least 2 weeks apart.

Room temperature ionic liquids show great promise as electrolytes in various technological applications, such as energy storage or electrotunable lubrication. These applications are particularly intriguing due to the specific behavior of ionic liquids in nanoconfinement. While previous research has been focused on optimizing the required characteristics through the selection of electrolyte properties, the contribution of confining material properties in these systems has been largely overlooked.
