Oxidative cleavage of carotenoids leads to dialdehydes (diapocarotenoids, DIALs) in addition to the widely known apocarotenoids. DIALs are biologically active compounds that presumably impact human health and play different roles in plant development and carotenoid metabolism. However, detection of DIALs in plants is challenging due to their instability, low abundance, and poor ionization efficiency in mass spectrometry. Here, we developed a solid-phase extraction and derivatization protocol coupled with ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for quantitative profiling of DIALs. Our method significantly enhances the sensitivity of DIAL detection with a detection limit of 0.05 pg/mg of dried food materials, allowing unambiguous profiling of 30 endogenous DIALs with C to C from vegetables. Our work provides a new and efficient approach for determining the content of DIALs from various complex matrices, paving the way for uncovering the functions of DIALs in human health and plant growth and development.

IL-17A is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that significantly contributes to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis (MS). Previous studies have suggested that PARP-1 inhibitors can modulate IL-17A-mediated inflammation, prompting the investigation of Niraparib, an FDA-approved PARP-1 inhibitor, as a potential therapeutic agent for MS. In this study, we hypothesized that Niraparib could disrupt the interaction between IL-17A and its receptor, IL-17RA.

Although ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) are globally distributed in nature, growth in biofilms has been relatively little explored. Here we investigated six representatives of three different terrestrial and marine clades of AOA in a longitudinal and quantitative study for their ability to form biofilm, and studied gene expression patterns of three representatives. Although all strains grew on a solid surface, soil strains of the genera Nitrosocosmicus and Nitrososphaera exhibited the highest capacity for biofilm formation.

The purpose of this study was to investigate potential therapeutic targets for osteosarcoma (OS) and offer hints regarding genetic factors for OS treatment using a bioinformatics method. This study processed 3 OS datasets from the gene expression omnibus database using R software, screening for differentially expressed genes (DEGs). After enrichment analysis, based on expression quantitative trait loci data and the genome-wide association study data of OS, Mendelian randomization analysis was used to screen the genes closely related to OS disease, which intersect with DEGs to obtain co-expressed genes, validation datasets were employed to verify the results.
