Existing prognostic scores for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) are based on randomized clinical trial data and focus on parameters evaluated at the start of first-line (1L) treatment. Unlike these, the modified mCRC prognostic score (mCCS) was developed using real-world data from the German tumor registry colorectal cancer (TKK) and is based on pre-1L treatment information. It predicts overall survival (OS) for patients with RAS-wild-type (WT) mCRC using five tumor characteristics identified as independent negative prognostic factors.

Can Communication Skills Be Taught in a Multidisciplinary Maternal Fetal Care Center?

Prenat Diagn

September 2025

Department of Cardiology, Boston Children's Hospital and Department of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Objective: To evaluate a structured communication training for providers performing prenatal counseling for patients presenting to a multidisciplinary maternal fetal care center.

Method: Providers who care for pregnant patients with high-risk fetal conditions participated in two half-day virtual training sessions using the VitalTalk methodology. In each session, providers learned the methodology and then participated in role-play with standardized actors.

Unlabelled: By integrating single-cell and bulk RNA-sequencing data for esophageal cancer (ESCA), we developed and validated a seven-macrophage-gene prognostic signature (FCN1, SCARB2, ATF5, PHLDA2, GLIPR1, CHORDC1, and BCKDK). This signature effectively stratified patients into high- and low-risk groups with significantly different overall survival, achieving area under the curve (AUC) values greater than 0.7 for 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival prediction.

Microglia-Astroglia-Neuron network following stroke: novel insight into extracellular vesicles communication.

Brain Res Bull

September 2025

Jiangxi Key Laboratory of Neurological Diseases, Department of Neurosurgery, the 1(st) Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, No. 17 Yongwaizheng Street, Nanchang, 330006, Jiangxi, China. Electronic address:

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, with ischemic stroke accounting for the majority of cases. Intercellular communication is critical to its prognostic impact, and extracellular vesicles (EVs) are an emerging important mechanism. EVs are increasingly recognized as key mediators of crosstalk between neurons and glial cells, affecting processes such as neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and tissue repair.

Objective: To examine how communication needs regarding prognosis, treatment options, and palliative care evolve over time for patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers, particularly as patients approach the end-of-life.

Methods: This mixed-methods study surveyed 272 patients at a California healthcare system from October 2019-November 2021 at 1, 4, 8, and 12 months after identification of advanced cancer. Additionally, 24 family caregivers were interviewed between March 2021-May 2022.
