Article Abstract

Based on traditional microbiological methods, a novel denitrifier sp. N3 with excellent denitrification capacity at low temperature was isolated and identified using phenotypic and phylogenetic analysis. Complete nitrate removal was achieved at C/N=8, that is, 70 mg·L nitrate. In addition, the isolate exhibited a great adaptability for low temperature and can reach 100% removal of 15 mg·L nitrate at a temperature as low as 4℃ within 36 h. The denitrification genes of and were highly expressed; they were at the same order of magnitude as those at 30℃. Semicontinuous experiments were conducted to test the stability of N3 immobilized with polyvinyl alcohol and sodium alginate at 10℃. The results show that immobilized N3 can remove 15 mg·L nitrate completely within three days and maintains a strong mechanical performance and stability during the whole 54 days. The cold resistance and high denitrification ability of the strain N3 make it applicable to nitrogen wastewater treatment in winter.

One-Pot Sequential Coordination-Covalent Construction of Symmetry-Broken MNO Catalytic Sites in Cobalt-Polyimide Polymers for Nitrate Electroreduction.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

September 2025

College of Polymer Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Advanced Polymer Materials, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610065, P.R. China.

The metal-nitrogen chelated species, MN, have shown promise as efficient electrocatalysts for nitrate reduction, yet the symmetric arrangement of N atoms results in suboptimal adsorption affinity toward reaction substrates and intermediates. The current approaches to breaking the symmetry of MN suffer from inaccuracy and inhomogeneity because of the lack of strategies stemming from molecular design aspects. Herein, we report the construction of symmetry-broken MNO sites in coordination polymers via sequential coordination-covalent control in a one-pot reaction.

Ampere-level electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia (eNRA) offers a carbon-neutral alternative to the Haber-Bosch process. However, its energy efficiency is critically hampered by the inherent conflict between the reaction and diffusion. Herein, we propose a reaction-diffusion-coupled strategy implemented on a well-tailored CuCoNiRuPt high-entropy alloy aerogel (HEAA) to simultaneously realize energy barrier homogenization and accelerate mass transport, endowing ampere-level eNRA with a high energy efficiency.

Constructing structurally sophisticated molecules with interesting properties is the goal of supramolecular chemistry. Herein, two heterometallic clusters, formulated respectively as [GdNi(μ-CO)(μ-NO)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)(μ-CO)(HO)]Cl·49HO·90MeOH (, H = -methyliminodiacetic acid) and [TbNi(μ-CO)(μ-NO)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)(HO)]Cl·50HO·130MeOH (), were obtained by the cohydrolysis of Ln (Ln = Gd, Tb) and Ni in the presence of H and triethylamine. The essentially isostructural cationic cluster cages are constructed by coexisting pentagons and hexagons whose formation is respectively templated by nitrate and oxalate ions.

Insect chemoreception is essential for locating food, selecting oviposition sites, and detecting infochemicals. In tephritid fruit flies, chemosensory perception occurs primarily through sensilla on the antennal flagella, maxillary palps, and ovipositor. Identifying these sensilla provides insights into olfaction, which may lead to improvements in insect control measures.

School of Materials Engineering, Changzhou Vocational Institute of Industry Technology, Changzhou, 213000, People's Republic of China.

A multi-indicator framework was developed to resolve multi-source pollution in highly urbanized rivers, demonstrated in the Qinhuai River Basin, Nanjing, China. Water quality index (WQI) stratification was integrated with dissolved organic matter (DOM) fluorescence components, hydrochemical ions, and conventional parameters and analyzed using positive matrix factorization (PMF). Correlation analysis further elucidated source compositions and interactions.
