Rotifers have been widely used as well-characterized models of aging, since their multiorgan character makes them suitable as toxicological and lifespan models. Here we report the assessment of four adaptogenic plants and their extracts for the first time in this model. The effects on rotifer viability of extracts and characteristic active markers of , , and were tested . The crude extracts were nontoxic to bdelloid rotifers; however, the pure substances of the plants influenced negatively the viability. Ginsenoside Rb1 and secondary metabolites of exerted deleterious effect on the animals. The aglycone tyrosol and cinnamyl alcohol (from ) were more toxic than their glycosides salidroside and rosavin. Although the 20-OH-ecdysone and ajugasterone C (from ) are chemically very similar, the latter was less toxic.

This study presents the first comprehensive sensory-guided investigation into the odor-active compounds of dried hemp ( L.) flowers. Using gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) in combination with aroma extract dilution analysis (AEDA), 52 odor-active compounds were identified across six cannabidiol-rich cultivars.

The hallmarks of mechanosensitive ion channels have been observed for half a century in various cell lines, although their mechanisms and molecular identities remained unknown until recently. Identification of the bona fide mammalian mechanosensory Piezo channels resulted in an explosion of research exploring the translation of mechanical cues into biochemical signals and dynamic cell morphology responses. One of the Piezo isoforms - Piezo1 - is integral in the erythrocyte (red blood cell; RBC) membrane.

Hamigerans, a class of diterpenoid natural products isolated from marine sponge , are characterized by distinctive 6-6-5 or 6-7-5 tricyclic skeletons. These compounds have been a focal point for synthetic chemists in recent years due to their remarkable biological activities. In this Review, we summarize the progress made in the isolation, biosynthesis, bioactivity, and total synthesis of hamigerans, with particular emphasis on synthetic studies published since 2013.

The synthesis of -tetrakis(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)porphyrin [HT(3,4,5-OCH)PP] and cobalt(II) -tetrakis(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)porphyrin [Co(T(3,4,5-OCH)PP)] has been successfully accomplished. The oxidation properties of [Co(T(3,4,5-OCH)PP)] have been assessed through UV-vis, NMR, and EPR techniques. It can be seen in the UV-vis spectrum that adding SbCl caused extra peaks to appear at 674 nm, which means that a π-cation radical was formed.
