Objective: Explore the effects of a 4-week intervention using semi-custom insoles in recreational runners with patellofemoral pain.
Design: Mixed methods.
Participants: Seventeen (10 males and 7 females) recreational runners.
Setting: Laboratory.
Outcome Measurements: Participants were separated into specific subgroups, then provided with a pair of semi-custom insoles, for a period of 4-weeks. Lower extremity kinetics/kinematics during running at 4.0 m/s were obtained. In addition, knee pain was examined using the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score-Patellofemoral scale (KOOS-PF). Data were collected before and after wearing the insoles for 4-weeks.
Results: Significant improvements were shown for KOOS-PF in both subgroups (strong: (pre) = 63.84 & (post) = 71.49 and weak and tight: (pre) = 53.03 & (post) = 72.73), although only improvements in the weak and tight group exceeded the minimum clinically important difference (MCID). In addition, significant reductions in peak patellofemoral stress were shown in both subgroups (strong: (pre) = 6.82 & (post) = 6.39KPa/BW and weak and tight: (pre) = 7.66 & (post) = 6.28KPa/BW), although only reductions in the weak and tight group exceeded the MCID.
Conclusions: Semi-custom insoles may be a mechanism to reduce patellofemoral pain symptoms in recreational runners from the weak and tight subgroup. It is proposed that this improvement was mediated through reductions in patellofemoral loading in this subgroup.

Introduction: Behavior is not solely determined by individual dispositions or situational demands, but by the dynamic interplay between them. The current research investigates the contextual sensitivity of behavioral determinants by examining how personal values and social norms influence behavior across tight and loose cultural contexts.
Method: We either measured (Study 1: n = 762) or manipulated (Study 2: n = 564) cultural tightness and examined how it moderates the influence of experimentally induced personal values and social norms on environmental behavior.

This paper reviews how European islands are taking the lead in the European Union (EU) Clean Energy Transition by reviewing the lessons learned in the EU Bridge initiative and in a number of EU co-funded projects such as NESOI, RE-EMPOWERED, REACT, IANOS, LOCALRES, MASTERPIECE, SINNOGENES, SMHYLES, STEPWISE, and ISLET. Islands encounter significant difficulties in the management of their energy systems, including strong seasonal variations in energy demand, high operational costs and GHG emissions for energy production, weak energy grids, lack of technical skills, and difficult access to finance. However, they also have positive features that make them ideal laboratories for energy transition, including high potential for renewables, small-scale and strong community structures, and high energy prices, which make most solutions cost-effective.

We show how randomized rounding based on Grothendieck's identity can be used to prove a nearly tight bound on the covariance loss-the amount of covariance that is lost by taking conditional expectation. This result yields a new type of weak Szemeredi regularity lemma for positive semidefinite matrices and kernels. Moreover, it can be used to construct differentially private synthetic data.

The software package DIALECT is introduced, which provides the capability of calculating excited-state properties and nonadiabatic dynamics of large molecular systems and can be applied to simulate energy and charge-transfer processes in molecular materials. To this end, we employ the FMO-LC-TDDFTB methodology, which combines the use of the fragment molecular orbital approach with the density-functional tight-binding method and an excitonic Hamiltonian including local and charge-transfer excitations. In this work, we present the features and capabilities of the DIALECT software package in simulating the excited state dynamics of molecules and molecular aggregates using exemplary trajectory surface hopping as well as decoherence corrected Ehrenfest dynamics calculations in the framework of LC-TDDFTB and FMO-LC-TDDFTB.
