Article Abstract

In this work, the self-healing Si-B-C matrix-modified ZMI-SiC fiber/SiC (SiC/SiC-SiBC) composite was prepared by a combined process of chemical vapor infiltration, slurry infiltration, and liquid silicon infiltration. The weight changes of the as-fabricate composite after oxidation at 800, 1000, and 1200 °C for 100 h were -0.41%, -0.06%, +0.05%, respectively. The corresponding strength retention ratios were 75%, 99%, 100%, respectively. With the increase of oxidation temperature, coating cracks would be closed. A dense oxidation film was formed with the oxidation of the SiBC matrix, preventing the oxidation of interphase and fiber and leading to excellent oxidation resistance at 1000 and 1200 °C.

Deep learning-based automatic differentiation of acute angle closure with or without zonulopathy using ultrasound biomicroscopy: a comparison of diagnostic performance with ophthalmologists.

BMJ Open Ophthalmol

May 2025

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China

Objective: This study aims to develop ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM)-based artificial intelligence (AI) models for preoperative differentiation of acute angle closure (AAC) with or without zonulopathy and to compare their comprehensive diagnostic performance against ophthalmologists as a cross-sectional study.

Methods And Analysis: Three AI models were developed to differentiate AAC with or without zonular laxity or lens subluxation using UBM images and ocular parameters. Their diagnostic performances were analysed, with the best-performing model then compared with two diagnostic methods used by ophthalmologists (logistic regression and UBM image analysis).

Thermally Controlled -site Cation Ordering and Coupled Polarity in Double Perovskite NaLaZrO.

-site cation ordering in double perovskites is crucially important for their physical properties. In this study, polycrystalline samples of Zr-based double perovskite NaLaZrO were synthesized via high-temperature solid-state reactions, and the influence of the heating temperature and cooling rate on their crystal structures was investigated using synchrotron X-ray diffractometry and optical second harmonic generation. The samples prepared at 1200 °C, followed by slow cooling to room temperature, crystallize in a polar 2 structure, exhibiting partial -site cation ordering, with Na- and La-rich -site layers alternately stacked along the axis.

Article Synopsis
  • The concept of neurodiversity is complex and has many definitions, which can confuse those wanting to learn about it.
  • A collaborative reading list created by neurodiverse researchers addresses the lack of curated information by covering nine key themes related to neurodiversity.
  • The resource aims to enhance understanding of neurodiversity and guide researchers toward more inclusive and rigorous scientific practices.

Background: Given the large genetic heterogeneity in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), it seems likely that genetic subgroups may benefit differently from treatment. An exploratory meta-analysis identified that patients homozygous for the C-allele at SNP rs12608932, a single nucleotide polymorphism in the gene UNC13A, had a statistically significant survival benefit when treated with lithium carbonate. We aim to confirm the efficacy of lithium carbonate on the time to death or respiratory insufficiency in patients with ALS homozygous for the C-allele at SNP rs12608932 in UNC13A.

November 2021

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No. 110 Ganhe Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, 200437, China.

Background: People with post-stroke aphasia commonly receive speech-language therapy (SLT) when they are admitted to hospitals. Commonly, these patients reported communication difficulties in in-patient settings. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) has been reported as an effective treatment approach to improve communication effectiveness, language performance, decreasing depression, and improving quality of life for this population.
