Ribbon solid fraction is one of the most important quality attributes during roll compaction/dry granulation. Accurate and precise determination is challenging and no in-line measurement tool has been generally accepted, yet. In this study, a new analytical tool with potential off-line as well as in-line applicability is described. It is based on the thermo-conductivity of the compacted material, which is known to depend on the solid fraction. A laser diode was used to punctually heat the ribbon and the heat propagation monitored by infrared thermography. After performing a Gaussian fit of the transverse ribbon profile, the scale parameter σ showed correlation to ribbon solid fraction in off-line as well as in-line studies. Accurate predictions of the solid fraction were possible for a relevant range of process settings. Drug stability was not affected, as could be demonstrated for the model drug nifedipine. The application of this technique was limited when using certain fillers and working at higher roll speeds. This study showed the potentials of this new technique and is a starting point for additional work that has to be done to overcome these challenges.

Microgravity experiments on board the International Space Station, combined with particle-resolved direct numerical simulations, were conducted to investigate the long-term flocculation behavior of clay suspensions in saline water in the absence of gravity. After an initial homogenization of the suspensions, different clay compositions were continuously monitored for 99 days, allowing a detailed analysis of aggregate growth through image processing. The results indicate that the onboard oscillations (g-jitter) may have accelerated the aggregation process.

Its oral absolute bioavailability is 70% in the fasted state, and it has negative food effects. The scalable fabrication of high performance dyes desalination loose nanofiltration (LNF) membrane through facile thermal annealing remains challenging due to the susceptible pore collapse. Herein, we have developed a metal ion mediated sub-Tg thermal crosslinking protocol, which can convert the phase inverted reactive polymeric ultrafiltration substrate into LNF membrane showing high permselectivity as well as resistance to both extremely acid and alkaline solution. The original ultrafiltration substrate was composed of scalable-produced reactive polyarylene ether amidoxime (PEA) that was pre-crosslinked with ferric ions.

Background: Previous studies involving cleanup via conventional solid-phase extraction (SPE) materials to overcome matrix effects for the polar organophosphonate and -phosphinate pesticides glyphosate, glufosinate, ethephon, fosetyl, and their various metabolites often showed limitations due to the existence of various matrix compounds in plant commodities with similar polarity. To overcome existing drawbacks, we utilized the unique selectivity provided by metal oxides as SPE materials. These were exploited in a novel automated online SPE-LC-MS/MS method which allowed analyte-specific trapping in the presence of excessive amounts of matrix compounds as typically contained in extracts of the Quick Polar Pesticides (QuPPe) method.
