Article Abstract

We use our vector Maxwell's nonlinear eigenmode solver to study the stationary solutions in 2D cross-section plasmonic slot waveguides with isotropic Kerr nonlinear codes and anisotropic Kerr nonlinear cores. First, for the isotropic case, we demonstrate that, even in the low-power regime, 1D studies may not provide accurate and meaningful results compared to 2D ones. Second, we study, including at high powers, the link between the nonlinear parameter γ and the change of the nonlinear propagation constant Δβ. Third, we demonstrate that our approach is also valid for anisotropic waveguides, and we show how to improve by, a factor of 2, the figure of merit of nonlinear plasmonic slot waveguides using realistic materials.

We investigate the coherent control of anisotropic surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a symmetric double-layer metal/uniaxial dielectric structure. The directional anisotropy introduced by the uniaxial dielectric enables tunable SPP dispersion, absorption, and propagation characteristics through an external control field. We analyze reflection and transmission spectra, dispersion relations, propagation lengths, and the scattering matrix eigenmodes.

We study the collective decay dynamics of two or three quantum emitters coupled to a one-dimensional chiral waveguide. We find that both the asymmetry of emission intensity and the propagation phases play crucial roles in determining radiation behavior. Under suitable parameters, we show that the multiple emitters exhibit tunable radiance in the two-emitter case, such as one emitter exhibits superradiance while the other exhibits subradiance.

Reducing crosstalk between waveguides is an essential and viable strategy for enhancing integration density in photonic chips. Traditional approaches to crosstalk suppression primarily focus on engineering cladding layers. Here, we demonstrate that engineering substrate also plays a very critical role in mitigating waveguide crosstalk.

In this paper, we propose a plasmonically induced transparency (PIT) effect in 2D materials mediated by topological edge modes (TEMs). The topological PIT system consists of several units of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH)-modeled multilayer nanoribbons coupled with a bus waveguide. Using isotropic graphene and anisotropic black phosphorus (BP) as prototypes, we demonstrate that establishing a topologically nontrivial phase enables the coexistence of bright and dark TEMs.

The traditional prism coupling method is constrained by phase-matching conditions and has a strict relationship with the incident light beam mode, which makes polarization-independent light beam coupling impossible. In this paper, what we believe to be a novel prism coupling structure that utilizes an anisotropic liquid crystal cladding was introduced to address the polarization sensitivity issue. This research comprehensively examines the modulation characteristics of polarization-independent prism coupling, taking into account factors such as liquid crystal orientation and material parameters.
