A new Land Use Regression model was built to develop pan-European 100 m resolution maps of NO concentrations. The model was built using NO concentrations from routine monitoring stations available in the Airbase database as dependent variable. Predictor variables included land use, road traffic proxies, population density, climatic and topographical variables, and distance to sea. In order to capture international and inter regional disparities not accounted for with the mentioned predictor variables, additional proxies of NO concentrations, like levels of activity intensity and NO emissions for specific sectors, were also included. The model was built using Random Forest techniques. Model performance was relatively good given the EU-wide scale (R = 0.53). Output predictions of annual average concentrations of NO were in line with other existing models in terms of spatial distribution and values of concentration. The model was validated for year 2015, comparing model predictions derived from updated values of independent variables, with concentrations in monitoring stations for that year. The algorithm was then used to model future concentrations up to the year 2030, considering different emission scenarios as well as changes in land use, population distribution and economic factors assuming the most likely socio-economic trends. Levels of exposure were derived from maps of concentration. The model proved to be a useful tool for the ex-ante evaluation of specific air pollution mitigation measures, and more broadly, for impact assessment of EU policies on territorial development.

Reproductive Planning is a recognized basic human right and is essential to guaranteeing the quality of health providers' work processes in Primary Health Care (PHC). This study aimed to build a prototype of a mobile application on reproductive planning to aid the ongoing education of nurses in PHC. This methodological study is based on four stages: modeling, navigation design, abstract interface design, and implementation, and was built based on the thematic categorization of article contents stemming from an integrative review, totaling 24 moblets.

Objectives: To describe the research principles and cohort characteristics of the multi-disciplinary Project HERCULES, an innovative model of safe high-volume outpatient eye-care service for patients with stable chronic eye diseases. Results and analyses of the workstreams within Project HERCULES will be reported elsewhere. The rationale was to improve eye-care capacity in the National Health Service (NHS) in England through the creation of technician-delivered monitoring in a large retail-unit in a London shopping-centre, with remote asynchronous review of results by clinicians (named Eye-Testing and Review through Asynchronous Clinic (Eye-TRAC)).

Background: In order to seriously impact the global burden of heart failure (HF) and coronary artery disease (CAD), identifying at-risk individuals as early as possible is vital. Risk calculator tools in wide clinical use today are informed by traditional statistical methods that have historically yielded only modest prediction accuracy.
Methods: This study uses machine learning algorithms to generate predictions models for the development and progression of severe HF and CAD.

Recent studies in biology and ecology show striking convergences with process philosophy (PP). Biologists today are debating the real nature of evolution and of life itself, which is increasingly considered as a set of interrelated processes rather than a set of tangible species and material lineages. This perspective of focusing on changes can also be found with ecologists and environmental ethicists, whose studies feed into as well as draw on PP principles.

Background: As a common postoperative neurological complication, postoperative delirium (POD) can lead to poor postoperative recovery in patients, prolonged hospitalization, and even increased mortality. However, POD's mechanism remains undefined and there are no reliable molecular markers of POD to date. The present work examined the associations of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sTREM2 with CSF POD biomarkers, and investigated whether the effects of CSF sTREM2 on POD were modulated by the core pathological indexes of POD (Aβ42, tau, and ptau).
