A 27-year-old woman had massive genital bleeding after an artificial abortion. Color Doppler ultrasonography showed a hypervascular mass. Hysteroscopy revealed a placental polyp. Serum hemoglobin level was decreased to 7.7 g/dl. Although uterine artery embolization (UAE) followed by hysteroscopic resection has been used for treatment of a placental polyp, UAE may not be an ideal option for patients with intent for future pregnancy because of the risk of ovarian function failure. This report presents a case of a placental polyp managed successfully with intracervical injection of prostaglandin F, as an alternative UAE, followed by hysteroscopic resection.

Retained products of conception (RPOC) represent a significant cause of morbidity in the post-abortive and postpartum periods, potentially leading to abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, infections, and intrauterine adhesions. Accurate diagnosis is crucial to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions and to preserve future fertility. Transvaginal ultrasound constitutes the primary imaging modality for identifying RPOC, but the lack of standardized diagnostic criteria complicates clinical decision-making.

Placental polyps, consisting of residual trophoblastic tissue after delivery or miscarriage, are also known as a type of retained products of conception (RPOC). This is a rare but potentially severe condition that can cause significant hemorrhage, which can be life-threatening. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) followed by hysteroscopic transcervical resection (TCR) is used as a uterine-preserving intervention.

Objectives: To delineate the hysteroscopic findings of placental site nodule and plaque (PSNP) and determine its association with secondary infertility and chronic endometritis (CE).
Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of seven patients diagnosed with PSNP among women with secondary infertility mainly treated by assisted reproduction due to the variety of indications who underwent office mini-hysteroscopy with resection (MHR) followed by endometrial aspiration biopsy (EAB). Clinical backgrounds, specific hysteroscopic findings, and the sampling methods for the diagnosis of PSNP were analyzed.

A placental polyp is a retained fragment of placental tissue that can lead to postpartum hemorrhage or become a nidus for infection. Hypervascular placental polyps can pose an increased risk of life-threatening postpartum hemorrhage requiring immediate intervention. Thus, prompt recognition and appropriate management are crucial in preventing maternal morbidity and mortality.

Purpose: The impact of polypectomy of endocervical and decidual polyps during pregnancy on the risk of spontaneous late miscarriage and preterm delivery has not been determined. The existing systematic reviews included only three studies that could not yield definite conclusions.
Methods: The PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Wanfang Med and CNKI databases were searched from inception until July 1, 2024.
