Background: Leptin () and LEP receptor () polymorphisms may be associated with the development of cancer.
Methods: In this study, we selected five functional and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and conducted a case-control study to determine the relationship of and polymorphisms with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk in Eastern Chinese Han population. There were 584 HCC cases and 923 cancer-free controls included in our study. HCC patients and controls were fully matched by age and sex. SNPscan™ genotyping method was used to analyze the genotyping of rs2167270 G>A, rs7799039 A>G, rs6588147 G>A, rs1137100 G>A, and rs1137101 G>A SNPs.
Results: We found that rs7799039 A>G and rs2167270 G>A polymorphisms were associated with the susceptibility of HCC in this population ( rs7799039 A>G: GG vs AA: adjusted odds ratio [OR]=2.03, 95% CI, 1.22-3.38, =0.006 and GG vs AA/AG: adjusted OR=1.97, 95% CI, 1.20-3.22, =0.007; rs2167270 G>A: AA vs GG: adjusted OR=2.03, 95% CI, 1.10-3.75, =0.024 and AA vs GG/GA: adjusted OR=2.01, 95% CI, 1.10-3.68, =0.023). However, rs6588147 G>A polymorphism decreased the risk of HCC (GA vs GG: adjusted OR=0.62, 95% CI, 0.45-0.86, =0.005 and AA/GA vs GG: adjusted OR=0.64, 95% CI, 0.47-0.88, =0.007).
Conclusion: This case-control study highlights that rs7799039 A>G and rs2167270 G>A polymorphisms increase the susceptibility to HCC; however, rs6588147 G>A polymorphism may be a protective factor for HCC in Eastern Chinese Han population.

Adipocytokines secreted by adipokines can have both direct and indirect effects on the development of atherosclerosis progression. Research using modern high- -tech methods of molecular genetic analysis, which make it possible to identify the influence of certain variants of regulatory genes on the course of the atherosclerotic process, is becoming increasingly relevant. The review examines variants of genes (ADIPOQ, RETN, ITLN1, PBEF1, SCT, LEP, and GHRL) associated with obesity and metabolic disorders, as well as atherosclerosis-associated cardiovascular diseases.

Background: Although the effect of the LEP G19A (rs2167270) polymorphism on cancers is assumed, the results of its influence have been contradictory. A meta-analysis was conducted to precisely verify the relationships between LEP G19A and the development of digestion-related cancers.
Methods: Investigators systematically searched the literature in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science and used STATA software 14.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to explore the relationship between five selected proinflammatory and immune-mediated genes (TNF rs1800629G>A, rs361525G>A, rs1799964T>C, LTA rs1800683G>A, rs909253A>G, TNFAIP8 rs1042541C>T, LEPR rs1327118G>C, and LEP rs2167270G>A) and the risk and overall survival of DLBCL patients within the Jordanian Arab population.
Methods: One hundred twenty-five patients (125) diagnosed with DLBCL at the King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH) between 2013 and 2018 and 238 healthy cancer-free control subjects with similar geographic and ethnic backgrounds to the patients were included in the study. Genomic DNA was extracted from the formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues of the subjects and from peripheral blood samples of the controls.

Obesity leads a crucial importance in metabolic disorders, as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our present study was designed to assess the potential role of irisin, adiponectin, leptin and gene polymorphism of PNPLA3, leptin and adiponectin as predictive markers of diabetes associated with obesity. One hundred eighty subjects were distributed to three groups including; healthy non-diabetic non obese volunteers as a control group, diabetic non obese group, and diabetic obese group (n = 60 for each group).

The prevalence of obesity and diabetes changes dramatically with lifestyle and unequal risk among individuals have made scientists interested to understand how the environment interferes with genetic factors to make it so-called genetic predisposition. This study aimed to explore wherethe most variable region is in leptin gene and analyse microsatellite repeats with direct sequencing in Iraqis and compare our alleles with other populations as a risk for obesity and T2D predisposition. DNA was extracted from blood of 60 type 2 diabetics and 70 non diabetics individuals, 5‛UTR, exon 2 and 3 were screened in 45 individuals (24 type 2 diabetes patients and 21 non- diabetics), TTTC repeats region were amplified in all 130 participants from which 22 control samples were purified and sequenced, superimposed sequences were analyzed manually.
