Article Abstract

The comparison of the specifics of the guest-host chemical bonding in the materials with (Fe TiSe) and without (Fe TiTe) ordering of the iron atoms was performed. For this purpose the electronic structure of the materials were studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, resonant X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations (total density of states, partial density of states, and multiplet calculations). For the iron-intercalated TiTe compound iron-chalcogen bonds are formed, whereas the formation of iron-iron bonds is most typical for the iron-intercalated TiSe compound. This leads to an increase in the lifetime of electrons on the titanium atoms and does not allow the formation of atomic chains of intercalated metal.

Norbornene Homopolymerization Limits Cell Spreading in Thiol-Ene Photoclick Hydrogels.

Thiol-ene click chemistry is a powerful tool for engineering tissue-mimicking hydrogels permissive to 3D cell spreading. Thiol-norbornene chemistry allows precise control over crosslinking while seemingly avoiding alkene homopolymerization that can restrict 3D cell spreading. However, limited stress relaxation of a guest-host crosslinked norbornene-modified hyaluronic acid (NorHA) hydrogel employing a thiol-norbornene photoclick reaction prompts investigation into unintended norbornene homopolymerization.

An interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogel was developed for the three-dimensional (3D) culture of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) with the aim of independently controlling cell spreading and material modulus. Based on our previous studies, we formulated a semisynthetic material composed of two networks: a covalent network of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-fibrinogen (PF) and a second guest-host (GH) network of hyaluronic acid (HA) coupled to β-cyclodextrin (CD) and adamantane (Ad). The PF network provided cell attachment, precise control over modulus through the incorporation of additional PEG-diacrylate (PEG-DA) cross-linking, and proteolytic degradability.

A hazard to humanity is people's indiscriminate use of pharmacological compounds, such as antibiotics, and their presence in the environment or water supplies, which are not eliminated during the purification process. Either left in open water, they cause sickness in humans and animals. As a result, antibiotic use management is required.

A rapid and efficient method is highly desired for the determination of phenylurea herbicides (PUHs) in edible and medicinal herbs. Herein, we report a dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE) method using a metal-organic framework ZnO(NTB) as the adsorbent. The microporous ZnO(NTB) can selectively extract targets while excluding matrix substances.

Novel star-shaped derivatives of indolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole (ICz) are obtained and thoroughly studied. They incorporate large chromophores, specifically fluorene(ICz-A), carbazole(ICz-B), phenothiazine(ICz-C), and phenothiazine-carbaldehyde(ICz-D), all with long alkyl chains attached to the ICz core via acetylene linkages. The impact of different donor-acceptor substituents on optical, thermal, electrochemical, and electroluminescent properties of ICz derivatives has been systematically investigated and compared with the quantum chemical calculations.
