Article Abstract

A novel approach to achieve ultrasensitive response was successfully developed by rationally introducing the competition between cation-π and exo-wall π-π interactions into a pillar[5]arene-based supramolecular organogel (P5N-OG). Interestingly, the P5N-OG could be used for ion detection and separation, fluorescent display materials as well as ultrasensitive logic gates.

Multimodal self-supervised retinal vessel segmentation.

Guangdong Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy (SZ), Shenzhen, China. Electronic address:

Automatic segmentation of retinal vessels from retinography images is crucial for timely clinical diagnosis. However, the high cost and specialized expertise required for annotating medical images often result in limited labeled datasets, which constrains the full potential of deep learning methods. Recent advances in self-supervised pretraining using unlabeled data have shown significant benefits for downstream tasks.

Multivalent binding and the resulting dynamical clustering of receptors and ligands are known to be key features in biological interactions. For optimizing biomaterials capable of similar dynamical features, it is essential to understand the first step of these interactions, namely the multivalent molecular recognition between ligands and cell receptors. Here, we present the reciprocal cooperation between dynamic ligands in supramolecular polymers and dynamic receptors in model cell membranes, determining molecular recognition and multivalent binding via receptor clustering.

In the paper we consider the well-known Influence Maximization (IM) and Target Set Selection (TSS) problems for Boolean networks under Deterministic Linear Threshold Model (DLTM). The main novelty of our paper is that we state these problems in the context of pseudo-Boolean optimization and solve them using evolutionary algorithms in combination with the known greedy heuristic. We also propose a new variant of (1 + 1)-Evolutionary Algorithm, which is designed to optimize a fitness function on the subset of the Boolean hypercube comprised of vectors of a fixed Hamming weight.

This study investigates the relationship between occupational automation risks and workers' transitions to entrepreneurship using data from the Current Population Survey. We find that employees facing automation-related job displacement are inclined to shift toward unincorporated entrepreneurship, emphasizing entrepreneurship as a viable alternative career path. Noteworthy variations emerge when examining specific automation technologies, revealing a positive association between industrial robots and entrepreneurial transitions, whereas artificial intelligence displays a negative relationship.

This study aims to examine the impact of technical barriers to trade (TBT) on China's shellfish exports, focusing on both the intensive margin (trade volume) and the extensive margin (trade type). The research includes shellfish and aquatic products such as scallops, mussels, clams, oysters, and abalone, using HS-6 codes from 2003 to 2020. Panel data is employed for analysis.
