Article Abstract

Aim: Accurate staging of penile cancer requires invasive methods such as sentinel node biopsy or lymphadenectomy (LAD). We assessed the value of [F]FDG PET/CT for non-invasive nodal staging in penile cancer (PC) patients before inguinal LAD.

Patients And Methods: 41 consecutive patients with PC (stage pT1 or higher, cN0) received [F]FDG PET/CT before undergoing bilateral modified or radical inguinal staging LAD. Lymph nodes with a visually increased [F]FDG uptake were classified as suspicious of lymph node metastases (LNM). Standardized uptake value (SUV) of suspicious inguinal lymph nodes was determined. Results of [F]FDG PET/CT were correlated with histopathology.

Results: In total 623 lymph nodes were resected, in 10 patients LNM were histologically confirmed (14/623 lymph nodes). In patient-based analysis [F]FDG PET/CT showed a sensitivity and specificity of 80% and 68 %, respectively, a positive predictive value (PPV) of 44 % and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 91 %. In the groin-based analysis, [F]FDG PET/CT had a sensitivity of 69 %, a specificity of 77 %, a PPV of 36 % and a NPV of 93 %. There was no significant difference in SUV and SUV between true positive and false positive lymph nodes (p = 0.093 and 0.069, respectively).

Conclusion: [F]FDG PET/ CT shows a high NPV in penile cancer patients without clinically evident LNM. However, due to its limited sensitivity (especially with respect to LNM of small size) and specificity (i. e. in the differentiation between (post)inflammatory and metastatic lymph nodes) [F]FDG PET/CT cannot replace invasive nodal staging.

Background: Thyroid nodules (TNs) are frequent and often benign. Accurately differentiating between benign and malignant nodules is crucial for proper management. This research aims to use ultrasonography to examine TNs and identify possible risk factors in order to improve patient outcomes and diagnostic accuracy.

The interplay between organized lymphoid structures and thermogenic adipose tissue.

Advances in the immunometabolism field have shown that infiltrated immune cells play a pivotal role in the development and function of thermogenic adipose tissue (TAT), including brown and beige fat. However, scarce research has focused on the role that organized lymphoid structures, like lymph nodes and lymphatics vessels, may exert on TAT. In this review we summarize the evidence suggesting that a significant link exists between the lymphoid tissues and adipose tissue, and we describe the most important in vitro and in vivo findings indicating that organized lymphoid tissues also play an important role in TAT biogenesis and function, raising relevant questions which are still unsolved in this emerging field.

We report 35 patients who had a leukemic phase of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma/high-grade B-cell lymphoma with MYC and BCL2 rearrangements, also known as double-hit lymphoma (DHL). There were 23 men and 12 women with a median age of 57 years (range, 29-82). Eight patients had an established DHL diagnosis and later developed a leukemic phase of disease and 27 presented with DHL and a leukemic phase of disease at initial diagnosis.

Primary bladder diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: A rare case report.

Department of Urology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Kunming Medical University, Yunnan Province, China. Electronic address:

Introduction: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), originates primarily from lymph nodes, with a small proportion arising extranodally in sites such as the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. Given the general absence of lymphoid tissue in the bladder, primary bladder DLBCL is exceptionally rare.

Case Presentation: This case report describes an 83-year-old male patient with a bladder mass, initially suspected as cystitis glandularis, ultimately diagnosed via pathological examination as DLBCL.

Background: Metastases in the lateral pelvic lymph nodes or mesenteric lymph nodes represent distinct categories of mid-low rectal cancer. This study investigated the patterns of mesenteric and lateral pelvic lymph node metastases in mid-low rectal cancer; the survival benefit of postoperative treatment was also analysed in these groups.

Methods: This retrospective multicentre study included consecutive patients with mid-low rectal cancer who underwent total mesorectal excision with lateral pelvic lymph node dissection in three Chinese institutions between 2012 and 2020.
