Background: Dental rehabilitation is considered challenging to achieve whenever composite scapulo-dorsal free flaps are used to reconstruct medium-to-large maxillary defects due to the fact that bone quality and quantity may be low, which may preclude placement of conventional dental implants. In such cases, current options for dental rehabilitation include printed patient-specific subperiosteal implants or zygomatic implants.
Methods: The authors report three cases of maxillary tumour resections that led to medium-to-large defects reconstructed using composite scapulo-dorsal free flaps.

Background: Hemi-hamate osteochondral grafting is a surgical technique that is utilized to reconstruct the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint in cases of unstable dorsal fracture-dislocation with >50% articular surface involvement. However, hemi-hamate osteochondral grafting can be technically challenging, has been reported to have various technical modifications, and can lead to complications such as overstuffing of the joint. This surgical technique article describes successful PIP joint reconstruction with use of a hemi-capitate osteochondral graft, which may offer a viable alternative to hemi-hamate osteochondral graft.

Background: The second most common cause of autosomal recessive early-onset Parkinson's disease (PD) can be attributed to mutations in the PINK1 gene, malfunction of the mitochondria is the key pathological mechanism. Bre1 encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase, with the discovery of Bre1's role in repairing mitochondrial damage, further investigation into its implications for PD is warranted.
Methods: We used the PINK1 drosophila melanogaster as the PD model.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is marked by amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque buildup, tau hyperphosphorylation, neuroinflammation, neuronal loss, and impaired adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN). Taurine has shown protective effects in various cellular and animal models of AD, though the molecular mechanisms of free taurine and its effects in patient-derived models remain underexplored. This study evaluates taurine's therapeutic potential using integrated in silico, in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo approaches.

Background: Chronic pain and cancer interact bidirectionally, with pain enhancing sensory peptides and potentially promoting tumor growth. Despite this, most chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CIPN) studies overlook the contribution of cancer itself to neuropathy, focusing instead on chemotherapy-induced mechanisms. Animal models of chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CINP) have been developed by injecting chemotherapeutic drugs such as paclitaxel into normal animals without cancer.
