Background: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) remains a leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, antimicrobial susceptibility, serotypes, and molecular characterization of GBS colonized in neonates.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a multistage sampling method. Swabs for GBS identification were taken from infants' ear, oral cavity, and umbilicus immediately after birth. All GBS isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility, resistance genes, serotyping, multilocus sequence typing, and virulence genes.
Results: Of the 1,814 neonates, 1.3% tested positive for GBS, with 66.7% tested as multidrug resistant. All GBS isolates were susceptible to penicillin, but rates of resistance to tetracycline and erythromycin were high (70.8%), with the predominant resistance genes being tetM and ermB. The predominant serotype was III, followed by Ia and Ib, and the most common genotypes were sequence type (ST) 19, ST10, and ST485. Notably, we found that ST19 and ST17 isolates were associated with serotype III, resistant to tetracycline, erythromycin, and clindamycin, and carrying ermB, tetM, and rib; ST10 and ST12 isolates were associated with serotype Ib, resistant to erythromycin and clindamycin, and carrying ermB and alphaC; and ST485 isolates were associated with serotype Ia and carrying mefA/E, tetM, and epsilon.
Conclusions: These findings indicate a high prevalence of multidrug-resistant GBS and specific phenotype-genotype combinations for GBS clones.

To examine how one's community connectedness may act as a source of resilience and promote HIV prevention and care behaviors among transgender women of color. We analyzed survey data from 313 transgender women of color living in New York City collected from August 2020 to November 2022. The Community Connectedness Scale asks participants about their baseline feelings of connection, feelings of inclusion, feelings of belonging, feelings of isolation, and feelings of being unlike in relation to the transgender community.

The present study carried out the first systematic review with meta-analysis on the effects of metals and temperature rise individually and their associations with terrestrial invertebrates. Initially, a systematic review of peer-reviewed articles was performed. Meta-analysis demonstrated that metals negatively affected the fitness of annelids, arthropods, and nematodes and positively affected physiological regulation in annelids.

Marthamycetales species are widely distributed, non-lichenized, apothecial ascomycetes that are associated with various woody plants and grasses. Most species are presumed to be saprobes, although a few are pathogens. Apothecia are small and erumpent, with farinose discs that are encircled by ragged, projecting flaps of degraded plant tissue.

Understanding the diversity of microscopic hyphomycetes is an ongoing effort, and many species remain undescribed. While studying lichen organismal composition in western Canada, metagenomic data revealed the presence of an unknown species of (, Ascomycota), a genus of pollen-parasitic fungus with no previous records in the region. We developed genus-specific primers to amplify DNA in lichen and adjacent substrate extractions, successfully detecting multiple lineages of across a wide geographic range within North America.

We investigated the impact of short-term dietary nitrate supplementation on sympathetic neural responses to isometric exercise in postmenopausal women. Ten healthy women aged 64±2 (SD) years participated in this randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study. All participants underwent two-week beetroot juice (BRJ: 800 mg nitrate/day) and placebo (nitrate-depleted BRJ) interventions with ≥14 days of wash-out.
