Objective: to assess the implementation of the actions of the Leprosy Control Program in Camaragibe, Pernambuco State, Brazil.
Methods: evaluative research with 'implementation analysis', based on criteria, indicators and parameters guided from the construction of the Logic Model; four components were assessed - management, health care, epidemiological surveillance, health education and communication -; direct observation/questionnaire was used, as well as data from the Information System for Notifiable Diseases.
Results: the implementation of the program was incipient (58.3%); the estimate for the components varied from 'not implemented' (health education and communication, 48.0%), 'incipient' (management, 53.3%; health care, 57.2%) to 'partially implemented' (epidemiological surveillance, 73.0%); in 2012, it was observed low proportion of examined contacts (28.4%), treatment dropout (34.1%), limited standardization of patient care flow, and poor resolution of problems by managers.
Conclusion: the level of implementation found was related to the organization of services, with negative repercussions regarding the result indicators.

Background: Various media are used to enhance public understanding about diseases. While mobile health apps are widely used, there is little proof for using such apps to raise awareness of skin diseases.
Objective: We intend to develop an app, called DEDIKASI-app, to raise awareness of skin diseases, including leprosy.

Background: The Maltalep trial in Bangladesh assessed whether single-dose rifampicin (SDR) given 8-12 weeks after bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination was able to prevent excess leprosy cases due to BCG in contacts of newly diagnosed leprosy patients. After previous publication of the two years follow-up results of the trial, we now review the results after five years. Furthermore, to better understand the long-term protective effects of BCG against leprosy, we conduct post-hoc in-depth secondary statistical analyses based on the prospective interventional (randomized) Maltalep trial and a non-interventional (non-randomized) cohort study that was conducted simultaneously in the same project area.

SUMMARYMany yeast species causing life-threatening invasive infections that were formerly classified in the genus have been reclassified due to their evolutionary and phylogenetic relationships elucidated by DNA sequencing methods that are increasingly using whole genomes. This review explores the evolving taxonomy, epidemiology, and clinical implications of clinically relevant, rare, emerging and Saccharomycotina yeasts that have recently been reclassified from . This article highlights the urgent need for intensified research efforts to enhance knowledge and improve outcomes in the management of infections caused by these yeasts.

Mpox, caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV), re-emerged as a significant global health issue in 2024, resulting in the declaration of a second Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The emergence of Clade Ib in Central Africa, particularly affecting children and immunocompromised individuals, and the ongoing global spread of Clade IIb have raised concerns about increased transmissibility and virulence, potentially driven by accelerated APOBEC3-mediated viral mutations. Novel vaccination strategies include the licensed JYNNEOS and Japan's LC16 KMB, as well as promising mRNA vaccine candidates currently in clinical trials.

Unlabelled: Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by and . Brazil consistently ranks among the countries with the highest number of leprosy cases. Data from our group showed that upregulates the mevalonate pathway (MP), contributing to the accumulation of cholesterol-ester-enriched lipid droplets in infected macrophages, and that the inhibition of this pathway by statins decreases bacterial intracellular viability.
