Article Abstract

Oligodendrocytes (OLs) are glial cells in the central nervous system (CNS), which produce myelin, a lipid-rich membrane that insulates neuronal axons. The main function ascribed to OLs is to regulate the speed of electric pulse transmission, and as such OLs have been widely considered as a single and discrete population. Nevertheless, OLs and their precursor cells (OPCs) throughout the CNS have different morphologies and regional functional differences have been observed. Moreover, OLs have recently been involved in other functional processes such as metabolic coupling with axons. In this review, we focus on recent advances in single-cell transcriptomics suggesting that OLs are more heterogeneous than previously thought, with defined subpopulations and cell states that are associated with different stages of lineage progression and might also represent distinct functional states.

Identifying low-cost implementation strategies to facilitate the uptake of technological innovations can help low-resource community clinics mitigate health disparities. Using a social network approach to identify organizational opinion leaders (OLs) can facilitate the adoption of innovations. To fill knowledge gaps related to alternative methods of identifying OLs, we identify and compare OLs in a low-resource community clinic using theoretically based techniques using Phi correlations and a binary logistic regression.

This paper presents a metal-free synthetic protocol for assembling novel benzofuro[2,3-]pyridin-3-ols (BFPYOLs) using 2,3-disubstituted benzofuran derivatives with good yield. The method's advantages include the absence of an expensive metal catalyst, organic ligands, and easily accessible starting materials. The photophysical properties of the synthesized BFPYOLs are investigated, revealing that the largest is displayed by compound 7g at 389 nm, while the largest is observed in compound 7i at 494 nm in DMSO solvent.

Olive pomace (OLP) and stones (OLS) are key by-products of olive oil production, rich in lignocellulose and pectin, making them viable substrates for prebiotic oligosaccharide (OS) production. This study evaluated the chemical composition of OLP and OLS powders (OLPp and OLSp) and their potential for OS production through one-step fermentation using recombinant Bacillus subtilis 3610. Both substrates had comparable xylan and pectin levels, but OLSp showed greater potential, achieving a maximum total sugar yield of 60 ± 3 mg.

Antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) are increasingly subject to global regulatory restrictions and consumer pressure, driving the poultry industry toward antibiotic-free production systems. This shift has accelerated the search for effective alternatives, including innovative microbial additives, organic acids, phytogenics, and other bioactive compounds capable of supporting digestive function and enhancing immune competence in poultry. The present study reported the isolation and characterization of a novel Bacillus velezensis strain, BV-OLS1101, possessing robust probiotic attributes and a distinctive capacity to produce a serine protease subtilisin.

This study examines the spatial dynamics of urban vegetation and its impact on housing prices in Chicago, analyzing data from both pre- and post-COVID-19 periods. Employing Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) models, we assess how the effects of green spaces on property values vary across different neighborhoods. The OLS model generally indicates a positive correlation between increased vegetation and housing prices.
