Systemic amyloidosis is a complex disorder, making early and accurate diagnosis challenging. The most common types are associated with misfolded transthyretin or immunoglobulin light chains, where cardiac and renal amyloidosis portend the worst prognosis. Peptide p5+14 can bind all types of amyloid via multivalent electrostatic interactions.

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and papillary fibroelastoma (PFE) are distinct cardiovascular disorders that can rarely occur together. RHD is a chronic condition caused by untreated streptococcal infections, primarily affecting the mitral valve and resulting in severe valvular damage. On the other hand, PFE is a benign heart tumor, usually affecting the aortic valve, and is typically asymptomatic, often discovered incidentally through imaging.

Thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) usually arises secondary to systemic hypertension and atherosclerotic disease. Large aneurysms of the descending thoracic aorta can cause pressure symptoms on the adjacent structures with risk of rupture in larger growing aneurysms. Timely identification is crucial to prevent complications.
