Viscoelastic liquids are characterized by a finite static viscosity and a yield stress of zero, whereas soft solids have an infinite viscosity and a non-zero yield stress. The rheological nature of viscoelastic materials has long been a challenge and is still a matter of debate. Here, we provide for the first time the constitutive equations of linear viscoelasticity for magnetic wires in yield-stress materials, together with experimental measurements by using magnetic rotational spectroscopy (MRS). In MRS, the wires were subjected to a rotational magnetic field as a function of frequency and the motion of the wire was monitored by using time-lapse microscopy. The studied soft solids were aqueous dispersions of gel-forming polysaccharide (gellan gum) at concentrations above the gelification point. It was found that soft solids exhibited a clear and distinctive signature compared with viscous and viscoelastic liquids. In particular, the average wire rotation velocity equaled zero over a broad frequency range. We also showed that the MRS technique is quantitative. The equilibrium elastic modulus was retrieved from the wire oscillation amplitudes, and agrees with polymer-dynamics theory.

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a well-established near-infrared dye which has been used clinically for several decades. Recently, it has been utilised for fluorescence-guided surgery in a range of solid cancer types, including sarcoma, with the aim of reducing the positive margin rate. The increased uptake and retention of ICG within tumours, compared with normal tissue, gives surgeons a visual reference to aid resection when viewed through a near-infrared camera.

The surfaces of 1D layered lepidocrocite-structured titanates (1DLs) are negatively charged due to an oxygen-to-titanium atomic ratio >2. This, and their layered structure, allow for facile ion exchange and high colloidal stability, demonstrated by ζ-potentials of ≈ -85 mV at their unadjusted pH of ≈10.4.

Inspired by the rigid exoskeleton and elastic inner tissues of crustaceans, a bilayer gel integrating high-strength rigidity and soft cushioning with high interfacial adhesion (1060 ± 40 J m ) is developed via a stepwise solid-liquid phase crosslinking strategy. Herein, a prefrozen high-concentration polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution forms a solid-state structural framework, while a subsequently cast low-concentration PVA solution generates a flexible layer. Partial thawing of the frozen gel during casting triggers molecular chain interpenetration at the interface, synergistically enhanced by controlled molecular penetration, freeze-thaw cycles, and salt-induced crystallization.

Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T)-cell therapy is a promising resolution for solid tumors, but its corresponding clinical translation has been hindered by unsatisfactory therapeutic potency and severe cytokine release syndrome. Herein, tetracycline (Tet)-On inducible human epidermal growth factor receptor 1 (HER1)-targeted CAR-T (Tet-HER1-CAR-T) cells were engineered to enable spatially selective activation at tumor sites by doxycycline (Doxy), which is delivered by pH-responsive stealth liposomal calcium carbonate nanoparticles (Doxy@CaCO-PEG). Compared with the intravenous administration of conventional HER1-CAR-T cells and Tet-HER1-CAR-T cells activated by free Doxy, concurrent intravenous administration of Tet-HER1-CAR-T cells and Doxy@CaCO-PEG leads to the localized tumor activation of Tet-HER1-CAR-T cells and reduced systemic secretion of inflammatory cytokines.

Comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) expands treatment options for solid tumor patients and identifies hereditary cancers. However, in Japan, confirmatory tests have been conducted in only 31.6% of patients with presumed germline pathogenic variants (GPVs) detected through tumor-only testing.
