Article Abstract

Multiring basins, large impact craters characterized by multiple concentric topographic rings, dominate the stratigraphy, tectonics, and crustal structure of the Moon. Using a hydrocode, we simulated the formation of the Orientale multiring basin, producing a subsurface structure consistent with high-resolution gravity data from the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) spacecraft. The simulated impact produced a transient crater, ~390 kilometers in diameter, that was not maintained because of subsequent gravitational collapse. Our simulations indicate that the flow of warm weak material at depth was crucial to the formation of the basin's outer rings, which are large normal faults that formed at different times during the collapse stage. The key parameters controlling ring location and spacing are impactor diameter and lunar thermal gradients.

Background: Although robust genetic markers for episodic migraine (EM) have been identified, variants associated with chronic migraine (CM) are still unknown. Given the potential pathophysiologic overlap between EM and CM, we investigated whether six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), robustly associated with EM susceptibility (LRP1 rs11172113, PRDM16 rs10797381, FHL5 rs7775721, TRPM8 rs10166942, near TSPAN2 rs2078371 and MEF2D rs1925950) also play a role in the risk of developing CM.

Methods: A total of 200 EM and 202 CM participants were prospectively included.

Background: Cardiovascular (CV) outcome trials have shown that sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) reduce CV mortality in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). We previously found that 4 weeks of SGLT2i treatment increased coronary flow reserve (CFR) by 30% and reduced epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness by 19% in T2DM patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD). However, long-term effects remain unclear.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the etiologic agent that causes the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) identified in Wuhan, in 2019. Men are more prone to developing severe manifestations than women, suggesting a possible crucial role of sex hormones. 17,β-Estradiol (E2) and 1,25 α dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol) act upon gene pathways as immunomodulators in several infectious respiratory diseases.

: The therapeutic response in Graves' Disease (GD) remains largely unpredictable. Patients often experience persistent symptoms that are poorly correlated with thyroid hormone levels, an undefined treatment duration, and the need for long-term or definitive therapies. Based on the nuclear antagonistic properties of L-carnitine (LCT) on thyroid hormone action and the immunomodulatory role of selenium (Se), we aimed to assess the impact of adding a combined LCT and Se supplement to standard methimazole (MMI) therapy on the biochemical profile and quality of life (QoL) of patients with overt GD.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by a continuum of diverse neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative processes that contribute to disease progression from the earliest stages. This leads to a highly heterogeneous clinical course, requiring early and accurate prognostic assessment: the identification of reliable prognostic biomarkers is crucial to support therapeutic decision-making and guide personalized disease management. In this narrative review, we critically examined the current MS literature, investigating prognostic factors associated with disease progression and irreversible disability in adult-onset MS, with a focus on different clinical, radiological, and molecular biomarkers.
