Article Abstract

Hard carbons attract myriad interest as anode materials for high-energy rechargeable batteries due to their low costs and high theoretical capacities; practically, they deliver unsatisfactory performance due to their intrinsically disordered microarchitecture. Here we report a facile ion-catalyzed synthesis of a phenol-formaldehyde resin-based hard-carbon aerogel that takes advantage of the chelation effect of phenol and Fe, which consists of a three-dimensionally interconnected carbon network embedded with hydrogen-rich, ordered microstructures of expanded nanographites and carbon micropores. The chelation effect ensures the homodispersion of Fe in the polymer segments of the precursor, so that an effective catalytic conversion from sp to sp carbon occurs, enabling free rearrangement of graphene sheets into expanded nanographite and carbon micropores. The structural merits of the carbon offer chances to achieve lithium/sodium storage performance far beyond that possible with the conventional carbon anode materials, including graphite and mesocarbon microbeads, along with fast kinetics and long cycle life. In this way, our hard carbon proves its feasibility to serve as an advanced anode material for high-energy rechargeable Li/Na batteries.

Synthesis of novel naphtho[1,8-de]pyrimidine fused iminosugars and their anti-tumor activities.

Bioorg Med Chem

October 2025

Key Laboratory of Chemical Biology of Hebei Province, College of Chemistry and Material Science, Hebei University, Baoding, Hebei 071002, PR China. Electronic address:

A convenient one-pot synthesis of novel naphtho[1,8-de]pyrimidine fused iminosugars was developed through addition reaction of amine to iminium-ion catalyzed by M(OTf), using different saccharides and 1,8-diaminonaphthalene as starting materials. Interestingly, the migration and removal of the isopropylidene group were observed under the acid conditions. The anti-proliferative activities of such iminosugars against tumor cells were evaluated, and compound 5b exhibited significant anti-tumor effect.

Selective ozone oxidation of ammonium ion catalyzed by carbon nanocage-supported CoO: Role of oxygen vacancies and electron transfer sites.

J Environ Sci (China)

September 2025

School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Yancheng Teachers University, Yancheng, Jiangsu 224007, China. Electronic address:

For the effective treatment of the wastewater with low-medium concentration ammonia nitrogen and low strength COD, a high-performance CoO catalyst supported on carbon nanocages (CNCs) was prepared. By isovolumetric im pregnation, CoO could be uniformly dispersed on surface of CNCs, which possess tiny particle size and strong electron transfer capability. The catalytic performance of the prepared CoO/CNCs catalysts with different CoO loadings was systematically evaluated and compared with CoO/CNTs.

Ornithine (Orn) is biochemically significant amino acid and has a structure similar to lysine, yet a noncanonical amino acid. When Orn is incorporated into a peptide chain, irreversible nonenzymatic C-terminal peptide cleavage and lactamization occur, inhibiting the synthesis of a peptide chain. The Orn reactivity is high, and likely to proceed even in the absence of enzymes.

DNA gyrase is a bacterial type IIA topoisomerase that can create temporary double-stranded DNA breaks to regulate DNA topology and an archetypical target of antibiotics. The widely used quinolone class of drugs use a water-metal ion bridge in interacting with the GyrA subunit of DNA gyrase. Zoliflodacin sits in the same pocket as quinolones but interacts with the GyrB subunit and also stabilizes lethal double-stranded DNA breaks.

Holliday junction resolution is a crucial process in homologous recombination and DNA double-strand break repair. Complete Holliday junction resolution requires two stepwise incisions across the center of the junction, but the precise mechanism of metal ion-catalyzed Holliday junction cleavage remains elusive. Here, we perform a metal ion-triggered catalysis in crystals to investigate the mechanism of Holliday junction cleavage by MOC1.
