Article Abstract

Background: Creatinine is an endogenous compound generated from creatine by normal muscular metabolism. It is an important indicator of renal function and the serum level is routinely monitored in clinical labs. Results & methodology: Surrogate analyte (d3-creatinine) was used for calibration standard and quality control preparation and the relative instrument response ratio between creatinine and d3-creatinine was used to calculate the endogenous creatinine concentrations.

Conclusion: A fit-for-purpose strategy of using a surrogate analyte and authentic matrix was adopted for this validation. The assay was the first human plasma assay using such strategy and was successfully applied to a clinical study to confirm a transient elevation of creatinine observed using an existing clinical assay.

The evaluation of the prevalence of hypoaldosteronism and (autoimmune) hypothyroidism in dogs with hypoadrenocorticismLeft over serum samples from 29 dogs with confirmed hypoadrenocorticism were analyzed. Aldosterone concentrations were determined in 0 h- and 1 h samples of the ACTH-stimulation test. Total T4 concentration (TT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroglobuline antibodies (TgAA) were determined at 0 h and 1 h following the administration of ACTH.

Background: Creatine, an endogenous compound essential for energy metabolism and cellular function, has been associated with numerous beneficial effects in sports and overall health. Here, we investigated relationships between plasma creatine concentration, estimated intramuscular creatine concentration, and all-cause mortality in the general population.

Methods: In a Dutch prospective population-based cohort, plasma creatine concentration, 24-h urinary creatinine excretion and muscle mass (assessed with bio-electrical impedance analysis) were measured in 5127 participants.

Objectives: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive medical condition marked by a gradual decline in kidney function, leading to an accumulation of waste products and fluids in the body. Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) poses a significant clinical challenge in CKD management, with paracetamol being a commonly used medication. Advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) are biomarkers of CKD progression and contributors to DILI.

Background: Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) represents the most prevalent form of primary glomerulonephritis. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play critical roles in the initiation and progression of various diseases, including kidney disorders. However, the involvement of lncRNAs in IgAN remains underexplored.

Hemoglobin (Hb) toxicity is a known contributor to acute kidney injury (AKI), particularly under hemolytic conditions where cell-free Hb is present in circulation. When the endogenous Hb scavenger protein haptoglobin becomes saturated with cognate ligand Hb, excess unbound cell-free Hb extravasates into tissues, including the kidneys, leading to oxidative stress, inflammation, and impaired renal function. Although sex-based differences in AKI susceptibility have been observed, the protective role of hormones in modulating the severity of Hb-induced kidney injury remains unclear.
