The prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection varies across the world, with the highest number of infections reported in Egypt. Monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) is a potent chemokine, and its hepatic expression is up-regulated during chronic HCV infection. Fifty naive patients with chronic hepatitis C in National Hepatology & Tropical Medicine Research Institute and 20 healthy volunteers as controls were enrolled in a prospective study designed with strict inclusion criteria to nullify the effect of confounding variables and further minimize selection bias. Fifty naive patients were treated with PEG-IFN-a2b, at a dose of 1801 g/kg subcutaneously every week plus ribavirin at a dose of 1000- 1200 mg/day, according to the patient's body weight, for 48 weeks. Quantification of HCV-RNA by real-time PCR and MCP-1 by ELISA were performed for every patient and controls. There was a sta- tistically significant difference between patients and control group as regards the quantity of MCP-1 (P < 0.05) (Mann-Whitney test) (P = 0.004). There was a significant difference between responders and nonresponses regarding MCP-1 (P < 0.05), responders showed a higher percentage of cases with initial MCP-1 < 306 (P < 0.05). We conclude the importance of the detection of MCP-1 expression at the start of therapy as a factor for assessing the likelihood of HCV genotype 4 patients to achieving a sustained virological response to treatment with IFN-a2 in combination with ribavirin.

Growing evidence have indicated the bidirectional relationships between various inflammatory cytokines and prostate cancer (PCa), but the causality between genetic susceptibility to inflammatory cytokines and PCa was still in initial exploratory phase. This bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) research was manipulated to draw causative inferences and the effect of direction between 91 inflammatory cytokines and PCa. Genetic data of PCa were originated from a publicly accessible genome-wide association study with 3269 individuals and 459,664 controls, and inflammatory cytokines summarized by a protein quantitative trait locus study were embodied 14,824 participants.

Purpose: To assess the pharmacodynamic effects and therapeutic mechanisms of modified Fuzi decoction (MFZD) in osteoarthritis (OA), particularly OA-related inflammation.
Methods: The main components of MFZD were identified using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). An OA model was established in Sprague-Dawley rats via intra-articular injection of monoiodoacetate (MIA) to evaluate the anti-OA efficacy of MFZD via gavage.

Introduction: Inflammatory cytokine disturbance is a prominent outcome of immune dysregulation, extensively documented in bipolar disorder (BD). However, observational studies have exhibited inconsistent findings, and the causal relationships between inflammatory factors and BD remain unclear. Hence, this study aimed to uncover the causality between circulating inflammatory cytokines and BD.

Multivariate logistic regression was employed to analyze the influence of serum ET-1, MCP-1, and LA levels on the prognosis of patients, and ROC curves were plotted to analyze the predictive value of these parameters.
Results: There were 29 cases in the mild group (grade Ⅰ), 49 cases in the moderate group (grade Ⅱ-Ⅲ), and 25 cases in the severe group (grade Ⅳ-Ⅴ).

Purpose: To investigate the association between preoperative aqueous humor (AqH) cytokines and mid-term endothelial cell density (ECD) after Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK).
Methods: This prospective study included 80 eyes: 47 eyes undergoing DSAEK and 33 cataract surgery eyes as controls. AqH samples were collected at the beginning of surgery.
