Article Abstract

Background: To evaluate the clinical value of circulating tumor cells (CTC) count in peripheral venous blood of patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).

Methods: A total of 50 NSCLC patients who were diagnosed in Wuxi No. 2 People's Hospital from January 2013 to December 2013 were selected as the NSCLC group, 35 patients with lung benign tumor as the benign group, and 28 healthy subjects as the normal control group. Venous blood samples (3 mL) were collected in all subjects for counting the CTC, and a result of ≥8.7 was judged to be positive. The relationships between the positive rate of CTC and the age, sex, pathological type, and clinical stage of NSCLC were analyzed.

Results: CTC count was significantly higher in NSCLC group than in benign group and normal control group. In NSCLC patients, CTC count was not significantly correlated with sex, age, or the pathological type (P>0.05) but was closely related to clinical stage (P<0.01). Among NSCLC patients, CTC count significantly increased along with tumor progression.

Conclusions: CTC count shows certain correlation with the clinical features of NSCLC and thus can, to certain extent, reflect the status of the disease.

A critical prerequisite for translating circulating tumor cells (CTCs) detection technologies into clinical practice is achieving high-efficiency capture and non-destructive release of low-abundance CTCs in blood. In recent years, innovative designs and surface modification of bioinspired topological micro/nanostructured materials have provided efficient solutions to capture and release CTCs. Motivated by pollen morphology and multimodal regulation, this study designed pollen-inspired spiky topological magnetic nanoparticles (IP-GSMNs) based on dual-recognition interface and intelligent-response modulation for high-efficiency capture and non-destructive release of CTCs from peripheral whole blood.

Background: Epigenetic mechanisms influencing sperm production and function are closely linked to male infertility. Among these, tRNA-derived fragments have recently been identified as important modulators of cellular stress responses and gene expression. The purpose of this study was evaluate the potential role of 5'tRF-Glu-CTC in the context of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) outcomes by comparing its differential expression in the seminal plasma of oligozoospermic and normozoospermic infertile men.

The presence of Salmonella species cells in the viable but nonculturable (VBNC) state has been extensively confirmed in both aqueous environments and food systems, posing a significant and often underestimated threat to public health. However, the regulatory mechanisms governing the formation and resuscitation of VBNC Salmonella remain incompletely understood. This study aimed to elucidate the functions of yeaZ in regulating the formation and resuscitation of VBNC Salmonella enteritidis.

Lung recurrence following hepatectomy is a common and clinically significant complication in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), often leading to poor prognosis. However, the underlying mechanisms and reliable predictive biomarkers remain poorly defined. We performed cDNA microarray analysis to identify genes associated with lung recurrence after hepatectomy in HCC patients and identified lysyl oxidase (LOX) as a candidate.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by aberrant tumor vasculature and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME), both of which compromise immunotherapy efficacy while promoting circulating tumor cell (CTC) dissemination and immune escape. Here, we aimed to identify potential therapeutic targets for remodeling aberrant tumor vasculature by analyzing CTCs from early-stage HCC patients. HCC tissue samples derived from patients with elevated CTC counts demonstrated significant CCL16 downregulation accompanied by vascular structural abnormalities and an immunosuppressive TME.
