Severe emphysema impairs lung function and quality of life in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Despite optimized medical treatment and rehabilitation, some patients require lung volume reduction interventions (endoscopic or surgical). This study evaluates one-year outcomes of patients managed at the Emphysema Clinic of CHU Liège.

Radical esophagectomy remains the cornerstone of curative treatment for esophageal cancer, but is frequently complicated by postoperative events, most notably anastomotic leakage. Anastomotic leakage, occurring in up to 30% of cases, is multifactorial in origin and significantly increases morbidity and mortality. This review aims to summarize current management strategies, highlight emerging therapies, and identify persistent clinical challenges related to this complication.

Giant two-photon upconversion from 2D exciton in doubly-resonant plasmonic nanocavity.

Institute of Modern Optics, Nankai University, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Micro-scale Optical Information Science and Technology, Tianjin, China.

Photon upconversion through high harmonic generation, multiphoton absorption, Auger recombination and phonon scattering performs a vital role in energy conversion and renormalization. Considering the reduced dielectric screening and enhanced Coulomb interactions, semiconductor monolayers provide a promising platform to explore photon upconversion at room temperature. Additionally, two-photon upconversion was recently demonstrated as an emerging technique to probe the excitonic dark states due to the extraordinary selection rule compared with conventional excitation.

Oxytocin-mediated empathy internally facilitates cooperative behaviors in rats.

Sci Bull (Beijing)

August 2025

Institute of Neuroscience, State Key Laboratory of Neuroscience, CAS Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200031, China; University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100049, China. Electronic address:

Reciprocity is considered one of the vital mechanisms that sustain the evolution of cooperative behavior. However, free-riding, where assistance is received but not reciprocated, poses a serious threat to reciprocity behavior, which relies on future payback. Previous theories proposed that third-party punishment plays a vital role in preventing free-riding behavior.

Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: A retrospective study conducted in the Colombian Southwest.

Rev Gastroenterol Mex (Engl Ed)

September 2025

Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad Icesi, Cali, Colombia; Departamento de Medicina Interna, Servicio de Gastroenterología, Fundación Valle del Lili, Cali, Colombia. Electronic address:

Introduction And Aim: Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) are rare neoplasms originating in neuroendocrine cells from the gastric mucosa and submucosa, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and pancreas. Our aim was to describe their histopathologic, endoscopic, and clinical characteristics and the experience with these tumors at a tertiary care hospital center in the Colombian Southwest.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective, analytic, observational, and descriptive study included 93 patients diagnosed with GEP-NETs, within the time frame of 2018 and 2022.
