Orthogonally functionalized binary micropatterned substrates are produced using a novel protocol. The use of adequate peptido-mimetics enables an unprecedented segregation of purified αvβ3 and α5β1 integrins in adjacent microislands and evidences the preference of U2OS cells to colocalize such receptors. Moreover, this tendency can be altered by varying the geometry and composition of the micropatterns.

A number of techniques have been developed to measure the three-dimensional trajectories of protists, which require special experimental set-ups, such as a pair of orthogonal cameras. On the other hand, machine learning techniques have been used to estimate the vertical position of spherical particles from the defocus pattern, but they require the acquisition of a labelled dataset with finely spaced vertical positions. Here, we describe a simple way to make a dataset of images labelled with vertical position from a single 5 min movie, based on a tilted slide set-up.

Agonist-induced interaction of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with β-arrestins (βarrs) is a critical mechanism that regulates the spatiotemporal pattern of receptor localization and signaling. While the underlying mechanism governing GPCR-βarr interaction is primarily conserved and involves receptor activation and phosphorylation, there are several examples of receptor-specific fine-tuning of βarr-mediated functional outcomes. Considering the key contribution of conformational plasticity of βarrs in driving receptor-specific functional responses, it is important to develop novel sensors capable of reporting distinct βarr conformations in cellular context.

Bacterial persisters are a subpopulation of cells that exhibit a transient non-susceptible phenotype in the presence of bactericidal antibiotic concentrations. This phenotype can lead to the survival and regrowth of bacteria after treatment, resulting in relapse of infections. It is also a contributing factor to antibacterial resistance.

Surface electromyography (sEMG) holds great potential in walking function evaluation. Compressed sensing (CS) leverages the sparsity of signals to decrease the number of samples required. In this study, a sEMG CS algorithm for spinal cord injury (SCI) patients based on regularized orthogonal matching pursuit (ROMP) was introduced.

This study developed medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA)-enriched specialty fats for hand-grasp pancakes through enzymatic interesterification (EIE) using a soybean oil/fully hydrogenated coconut oil/fully hydrogenated palm oil blend (6:1:3 w/w/w) as the substrate. Orthogonal optimization achieved 99.85 % randomization efficiency under mild conditions (70 °C, 12 % lipase load, 4 h).
