A number of techniques have been developed to measure the three-dimensional trajectories of protists, which require special experimental set-ups, such as a pair of orthogonal cameras. On the other hand, machine learning techniques have been used to estimate the vertical position of spherical particles from the defocus pattern, but they require the acquisition of a labelled dataset with finely spaced vertical positions. Here, we describe a simple way to make a dataset of images labelled with vertical position from a single 5 min movie, based on a tilted slide set-up. We used this dataset to train a simple convolutional network to estimate the vertical position of from conventional bright field images. As an application, we show that this technique has sufficient accuracy to study the surface following behaviour of (thigmotaxis).

Objective: Due to its inherent high instability, the selection of fixation strategies for unilateral Denis type II sacral fractures remains a controversial challenge in the field of traumatic orthopedics. This study focuses on unilateral Denis type II sacral fractures. By applying three different fixation methods, it aims to explore their biomechanical properties and provide a theoretical basis for optimizing clinical fixation protocols.

Background: Affective disorders represent a major global health burden. Animal models are widely used for modeling brain disorders and neuroactive drug discovery. A novel powerful tool in translational neuroscience research, zebrafish provide multiple behavioral assays relevant to anxiety-like and depression-related conditions (including despair-like behavior, a common feature in depression).

Context: This study investigates the radiation tolerance of a SiGe source vertical tunnel field effect transistor (VTFET) under heavy ion-induced single event effects (SEEs). Single event effects (SEEs) occur when high-energy particles interact with semiconductor devices, leading to unintended behavior. The effect of high energy ions on the VTFET is examined for various linear energy transfer (LET) values and at multiple ion hit locations.

Management of class III malocclusion in patients with cleft is geared toward improving the maxillary position with maxillary protraction therapy with or without bone anchorage. This study aims at evaluating the effects of bone-anchored maxillary protraction (BAMP) and tooth-anchored maxillary protraction (TAMP) appliances in patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP).
