Normal fusion of developing eyelids requires coordination of inductive signals from the eyelid mesenchyme with migration of the periderm cell layer and constriction of the eyelids across the eye. Failure of this process results in an eyelids open at birth (EOB) phenotype in mice. We have identified a novel spontaneous allele of Alx4 that displays EOB, in addition to polydactyly and cranial malformations. Alx4 is expressed in the eyelid mesenchyme prior to and during eyelid fusion in a domain overlapping the expression of genes that also play a role in normal eyelid development. We show that Alx4 mutant mice have reduced expression of Fgf10, a key factor expressed in the mesenchyme that is required for initiation of eyelid fusion by the periderm. This is accompanied by a reduced number of periderm cells expressing phosphorylated c-Jun, consistent with the incomplete ablation of Fgf10 expression. Together, these data demonstrate that eyelid fusion in mice requires the expression of Alx4, accompanied by the loss of normal expression of essential components of the eyelid fusion pathway.

The Golgi of goblet cells represents a specialized machine for mucin glycosylation. This process occurs in a specialized form of the secretory pathway, which remains poorly examined. Objective: This study aims to construct a semantic segmentation-based auxiliary diagnostic model for thyroid eye disease (TED) focusing on eyelid retraction, eye movement disorders, ocular inflammation related to Clinical Activity Score (CAS), facilitating rapid and non-invasive diagnosis for suspected TED patients and enhancing the efficiency of treatment and diagnosis.
Methods: Data were collected from 153 subjects exhibiting symptoms of eyelid retraction, eye movement disorders, and ocular inflammation related to CAS. After quality screening, datasets for the primary position (303 eyes), gaze positions (1,199 eyes), and a multi-label inflammatory classification dataset (272 eyes) were constructed.

A 10-year-old male neutered British Shorthair cat with diabetes mellitus presented with an acute onset of unilateral swelling, erythema, alopecia and coalescing ulcerations of the face and periocular skin. Initial clinical differential diagnoses were trauma, infections (including feline respiratory viruses), arthropod bites, and eosinophilic dermatoses such as eosinophilic granuloma complex, mosquito-bite hypersensitivity and cutaneous adverse drug reaction. Histopathology revealed fulminant furunculosis with abundant eosinophils and vasculitis.
