Radial spokes are conserved macromolecular complexes that are essential for ciliary motility. A triplet of three radial spokes, RS1, RS2, and RS3, repeats every 96 nm along the doublet microtubules. Each spoke has a distinct base that docks to the doublet and is linked to different inner dynein arms. Little is known about the assembly and functions of individual radial spokes. A knockout of the conserved ciliary protein FAP206 in the ciliate Tetrahymena resulted in slow cell motility. Cryo-electron tomography showed that in the absence of FAP206, the 96-nm repeats lacked RS2 and dynein c. Occasionally, RS2 assembled but lacked both the front prong of its microtubule base and dynein c, whose tail is attached to the front prong. Overexpressed GFP-FAP206 decorated nonciliary microtubules in vivo. Thus FAP206 is likely part of the front prong and docks RS2 and dynein c to the microtubule.

Radial spokes, RS1, RS2, and RS3, are T-shaped, multiprotein complexes that transmit regulatory signals from the central apparatus to outer doublet complexes, including dynein arms. Radial spokes, especially RS3, differ in their morphology, protein composition, and RS base-docked IDAs. Spokes' defects alter cilia beating frequency, waveform, and amplitude, leading, in humans, to primary ciliary dyskinesia and male infertility.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare genetically heterogeneous disorder characterized by dysfunctional motile cilia, with or without detectable ultrastructural abnormalities. This study focuses on a homozygous mutation in the rare radial spoke head component 4A () gene in a Chinese adolescent girl with PCD. The patient, an 11-year and 3-month-old girl, developed neonatal pneumonia after birth and gradually presented with persistent perennial rhinitis and recurrent productive cough.

uses its type III secretion system (T3SS) to invade human enterocytes. The T3SS injectisome is controlled by proteins at the tip of an exposed needle that sense host cell contact. Substrate selection and powering of secretion is controlled by a cytoplasmic assembly called the sorting platform (SP).

Objective: The Polar Fourier Transform (PFT) has been proposed as a direct alternative to gridding for reconstructing radially acquired MRI data. This study evaluates the feasibility of inline PFT implementation on a clinical MRI scanner and assesses its computational performance and image quality under acceleration.
Materials And Methods: PFT was implemented as modular components within the Siemens Image Calculation Environment, using a recursive numerical Hankel transform.

It has been shown that the diffraction of a plane wave modulated by a radial amplitude grating exhibits a circular transverse carpet pattern in free space. On the other hand, due to the anisotropic diffraction, the behavior of radial carpet beams in uniaxial crystals may not be circular, and their corresponding properties have been theoretically investigated in this paper. From the diffraction theory in uniaxial crystals, the radial grating transmittance function has been derived and used to generate radial carpet beams in theory.
