Steroid-refractory gut acute graft-versus-host disease (SR-Gut-aGVHD) is the major cause of nonrelapse death after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. High numbers of donor-type IL-22+ T cells, IL-22-dependent dysbiosis, and loss of antiinflammatory CX3CR1hi mononuclear phagocytes (MNPs) play critical roles in SR-Gut-aGVHD pathogenesis. CEACAM1 on intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) is proposed to regulate bacterial translocation and subsequent immune responses in the intestine.

The Effects of Anakinra on Cardiorespiratory Fitness in Heart Failure Stratified by Age in Phase II Clinical Trials.

Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center, and Division of Cardiology, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, United States.

Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in heart failure (HF) declines with age. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in aging and HF. We aimed to determine the changes in CRF before and after treatment with anakinra, recombinant IL-1 receptor antagonist, in patients with HF stratified according to age below and above 60 years in phase II clinical trials.

Dietary n-6 and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) balance critically modulates various physiological processes, including inflammation and cell death. This study investigated the effects of different n-6 PUFA ratios (1:1, 5:1, 10:1, 20:1) on ferroptosis in porcine IPEC-J2 intestinal epithelial cells. Cells treated with varying PUFA ratios showed a significant reduction in cell viability, which was alleviated by the ferroptosis inhibitor ferrostatin-1 (fer-1).

Background: Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) in critical illness involves dysregulated immune and inflammatory responses, endotheliopathy, and coagulation activation. We investigated how three types of endotheliopathy biomarkers relate to pro- and anti-inflammatory responses and clinical outcomes in intensive care unit (ICU) patients.

Methods: In this secondary, explorative analysis of a prospective single-centre cohort (n = 459), we assessed associations between endotheliopathy biomarkers (syndecan-1, soluble thrombomodulin (sTM), platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1)) and inflammatory biomarkers (pro-inflammatory: IFN-ϒ, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12p70, TNF-α; anti-inflammatory: IL-4, IL-10, IL-13) at ICU admission using linear regression.

Background: Selenium and zinc elements have been proven to participate in immune regulation and infertility improvement. Their potential has been confirmed in in prostatitis and reproductive performance modulation. In this study, first the composition of selenium- and zinc-enriched duck embryo egg (SZDE) powder was analyzed, especially trace elements and oligopeptides.
