Article Abstract

Microwave irradiation at different frequencies gave unique results for the hydrolyses of glycosyl bonds by β-Glucosidase HT1. With the observed relative complex permittivity data for the reaction buffer, 2.45 GHz microwave radiation affected both waters and ions, while 5.80 GHz only affected waters. We, here, propose that would be one of the unique "microwave nonthermal effects".

This study introduces microwave-assisted, Fe(III)-catalyzed ring-opening annulations of isoxazoles, enabling the rapid and selective synthesis of 1,4-diacyl pyrroles and substituted pyridines. By leveraging microwave irradiation and transition metal catalysis, this approach enhances the reaction efficiency, reduces reaction times, and promotes high regioselectivity under mild conditions. Under thermal conditions, the Ru(II) catalyst led to the synthesis of nicotinamide derivatives.

This study investigates the extraction, optimization, and characterization of pectin from pistachio industry waste (PIW) using microwave-assisted subcritical water extraction (MASWE) without acid. Two different low-methoxyl pectins (LMP) were observed. The first pectin variant (MASWE100) was extracted at a pressure of 3 MPa, a temperature of 100 °C, and an irradiation time of 4 min.

Implant-related infections (IRIs) pose a major challenge in orthopedic applications due to the persistence of biofilms, which are highly resistant to conventional antibiotics. This study introduces oxygen vacancy-engineered Zn-Fe spinel nanoparticles as microwave-responsive antibacterial agents. The oxygen vacancies in the spinel structure enhance reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation under microwave irradiation, providing a dual-mode antibacterial mechanism of thermal and oxidative stress.

Isothiouronium and thiazolidinium salts are sulfur-containing scaffolds commonly found in bioactive molecules. We report an expeditive one-pot, two-step procedure for the rapid synthesis of isothiouronium salts from carbon disulfide under microwave irradiation, allowing their isolation in less than 30 min and in good to excellent yields, without the need for a catalyst. When propargyl bromide is used as an alkylating agent, the corresponding isothiouronium salt undergoes an intramolecular cyclization during silica gel chromatography, affording a thiazolidinium salt.

This present investigation focuses on desulphurization of high sulphur North-East Indian coal under ultrasonic and microwave irradiation-aided chemical leaching. The powdered coal was treated under four different conditions, such as alkali leaching under low-energy ultrasound energy (US), acid leaching under ultra-high frequency microwave energy (MW), ultrasonic followed by microwave treatment (US-MW) and microwave followed by ultrasonic treatment (MW-US). The ultrasonic treatment was conducted using 0.
