Article Abstract

The management of back-up strategies in drug discovery and development is usually done on an ad hoc basis depending upon a series of external factors including overall portfolio status and resource and/or budget availability. These are however an essential component of risk management and merit a more structured and systematic conduct throughout the lifetime of a project. An approach based upon a thorough alignment of decision points and data availability as well as a tailor-made progression of various types of back-up program as a function of project categorization is suggested.

Objective: To describe how residents utilized a professional development rotation (PDR), its influence on different domains of professional development, and potential effects on professional identity formation (PIF).

Methods: This qualitative study used semistructured, one-on-one virtual interviews with pediatric residents and recent graduates who participated in a second-year PDR. Recruitment occurred via email with a purposeful sampling strategy until sufficiency was achieved.

Design: This report demonstrates how three established business frameworks - McKinsey 7S Framework, Kotter's 8-Step Change Model, and PESTEL analysis - can be adapted to implement physician well-being initiatives in healthcare settings.
