Article Abstract

Quartets of Au nanorods were designed by combining the methodologies of lateral and longitudinal assemblies. A high electric field prevailing at the quartet junctions results in large enhancement in the Raman signals of molecules. FDTD simulations showed that the displacement of the lateral dimers in quartets expands the scope of hot spot distribution.

Tubular boron clusters represent a class of extremely unusual geometries that can be regarded as a key indicator for the 2D-to-3D boron structural evolution as well as the embryos for boron nanotubes. While a good number of pure boron or metal-doped boron tubular clusters have been reported so far, most of them are two-ring tubular structures, and their higher-ring analogues are very scarce. We report herein the first example of a four-ring tubular boron motif in the cagelike global minimum of BeB.

The coming of age of water channels for separation membranes: from biological to biomimetic to synthetic.

Chem Soc Rev

June 2022

Singapore Membrane Technology Center, Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute, Nanyang Technological University, 637141, Singapore.

Water channels are one of the key pillars driving the development of next-generation desalination and water treatment membranes. Over the past two decades, the rise of nanotechnology has brought together an abundance of multifunctional nanochannels that are poised to reinvent separation membranes with performances exceeding those of state-of-the-art polymeric membranes within the water-energy nexus. Today, these water nanochannels can be broadly categorized into biological, biomimetic and synthetic, owing to their different natures, physicochemical properties and methods for membrane nanoarchitectonics.

Transcription of G-quartet supramolecular aggregates into hierarchical mesoporous silica nanotubes.

Dalton Trans

May 2016

State Key Labrotory for Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University, Changsha, 410082, P. R. Chian.

The use of 5-guanosine monophosphate (GMP) with Sr(2+) ions to form G-quadruplex bundles as supramolecular templates for the preparation of hierarchical mesoporous silica nanotube materials is reported here, and some mesopores with a diameter of 4-22 nm were obtained. Furthermore, some mesopore channels which run perpendicularly to the center axis of the tube and penetrate right through the outer wall of the nanotubes were achieved by removing the templates. Besides, porous hollow silica spheres were obtained by changing some of the reaction conditions during the process of preparation.

Four-peptide-nanotube bundle formation by self-assembling of cyclic tetra-β-peptide using G-quartet motif.

Biopolymers

April 2013

Department of Material Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, Nishikyo-Ku, Kyoto, 615-8510, Japan.

A hydrophilic cyclic tetra-β-peptide having guanine at the side chain (CPG) was synthesized to construct a four-peptide-nanotube bundle with the formation of guanine quadruplex (G-quartet). CPG was so soluble in water that molecular association of CPG was very limited in water. However, in the presence of potassium ion, circular dichroism spectral change showed initial molecular association due to the G-quartet formation followed by a slow growth into peptide nanotubes.
