Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of individuals exposed to smoking or biomass smoke and followed at primary health care (PHC) centers across three states in Brazil.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional multicenter study including patients followed at any of four PHC centers in Brazil. Background: In order to seriously impact the global burden of heart failure (HF) and coronary artery disease (CAD), identifying at-risk individuals as early as possible is vital. Risk calculator tools in wide clinical use today are informed by traditional statistical methods that have historically yielded only modest prediction accuracy.
Methods: This study uses machine learning algorithms to generate predictions models for the development and progression of severe HF and CAD.

Background: As a common postoperative neurological complication, postoperative delirium (POD) can lead to poor postoperative recovery in patients, prolonged hospitalization, and even increased mortality. However, POD's mechanism remains undefined and there are no reliable molecular markers of POD to date. The present work examined the associations of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sTREM2 with CSF POD biomarkers, and investigated whether the effects of CSF sTREM2 on POD were modulated by the core pathological indexes of POD (Aβ42, tau, and ptau).

Background: While psychological stress cannot be dissociated from chronic diseases, the extent to which it impacts the management of chronic diseases is poorly understood. This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence and impact of psychological stress among Rwandan patients with chronic diseases, particularly hypertension, heart failure, malignancies, diabetes, and kidney failure.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among internal medicine patients receiving treatment for chronic diseases at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (n = 81) and the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) (n = 78) between May 1 and June 30, 2024.

The vascular endothelium is responsible for regulating vascular tone, maintaining fluid homeo-stasis, and preventing platelet aggregation, exhibits regulatory properties in vasorelaxation and vasoconstriction - it produces, among others, nitric oxide and endothelin. The imbalance of vasoactive molecules leads to the loss of their function, known as endothelial dysfunction. Impaired endothelial function is observed in people with metabolic disorders, often preceding the onset of the disease by several years.
