Background: Escherichia coli ST131 and clade H30Rx are the most prevalent extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing E. coli (ESBL-EC) causing bacteremia and urinary tract infections globally and in Sweden. Previous studies have linked ST131-H30Rx with septic shock and mortality, as well as prolonged carriage.

The demand for natural sweeteners as alternatives to sucrose is growing rapidly, driving research into enzymatic bioconversion methods for more efficient production. Glycyrrhizin (GL) is approximately 190 times sweeter than sucrose, but its excessive consumption has been linked to adverse health effects. Its hydrolysis yields glycyrrhetic acid 3-O-mono-β-D-glucuronide (GAMG), a compound nearly 1000 times sweeter than sucrose and with improved sensory and solubility properties.

Plasmalogens are a subclass of glycerophospholipids characterized by a vinyl-ether bond at the sn-1 position; they play several physiological roles including membrane stabilization, antioxidant activity, and signal transduction. While choline, ethanolamine, serine, and glycerol plasmalogens (PlsCho, PlsEtn, PlsSer, and PlsGro) are naturally abundant, inositol plasmalogens (PlsIns) are rare. In contrast to the limited occurrence of PlsIns, phosphatidylinositol is a biologically crucial lipid, and its enzymatic biosynthesis from phosphatidylcholine has been extensively studied.

The arms race between insect-resistant secondary metabolites in plants and the detoxification genes of their natural enemies reveals the intricate co-evolutionary dynamics between the Asian corn borer (Ostrinia furnacalis) and its host plant, maize, and provides a new perspective for the potential control of pests. In this study, ELISA and transcriptome revealed that the glutathione S-transferases were involved in the detoxification of O. furnacalis to maize secondary metabolite 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-(2H)-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one (DIMBOA).
