A compound marker integrates two or more genetic markers into a single assay. The application of compound markers enhances the predictive accuracy of genetic testing by leveraging the strengths of different genetic variations while mitigating the limitations of individual markers. Compound markers include SNP-SNPs, SNP-STRs, DIP-SNPs, DIP-STRs, Multi-In/Dels, CpG-SNPs, CpG-STRs/CpG-In/Del, and Methylation-Microhaplotypes.

Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) are the standard technique used in forensic genetics for individual identification due to their high polymorphism and robustness. Although Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) enables the analysis of many STRs, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) offers enhanced resolution and the ability to detect STRs' isoalleles and their flanking regions, enhancing the discrimination power of this analysis. Despite the fact that STR kits for NGS are well standardized for evaluating forensic samples, there is no data on their effectiveness in differentiating monozygotic (MZ) twins, which are indistinguishable by CE.

Ticks are ectoparasites of major medical, veterinary and ecological importance, transmitting a wide range of pathogens to humans, companion animals and livestock. Understanding the population structure of ticks is essential for uncovering patterns of pathogen transmission, and population genetics provides a powerful method for this purpose. Tick population studies are uniquely challenging as their biology is shaped by complex interactions between hosts, microbiome and environmental factors.

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Marine Environment Change and Disaster in Beibu Gulf, Pinglu Canal and Beibu Gulf Coastal Ecosystem Observation and Research Station of Guangxi, College of Marine Sciences, Beibu Gulf University, Qinzhou, Guangxi, China.
Background: The marine species , valued for its medicinal and commercial significance, faces critical research gaps due to a lack of molecular markers (notably simple sequence repeats (SSRs)) and insufficient genetic diversity data, hindering genetic studies and evidence-based breeding initiatives.
Methods: The software of Misa and Primer3 were adopted to detect SSRs and develop primer pairs, and then some primers of highly polymorphic loci in the genome were used to reveal the genetic diversity of along the Beibu Gulf in China.
Results: From the genome, 277,264 SSRs were detected an d 198,902 primers were designed.

Reproductive traits such as flower colour can have a profound influence on the diversification of plant species, making understanding their evolutionary ramifications one of the foremost challenges for evolutionary biologists. Lysimachia monelli is a Mediterranean endemic with two markedly divergent flower colour lineages, blue and orange, which do not coexist within the same populations. We examined the relationship between lineage divergence and environmental niche differentiation for the two lineages.
