Article Abstract

M-ficolin, which forms trimer-based multimers, is a pathogen-recognition protein in the innate immune system, and it binds to ligands through its fibrinogen-like (FBG) domain. As the first step toward the elucidation of the molecular basis for pathogen-recognition by the M-ficolin multimers, we assigned the backbone resonances of the monomeric mutant of the M-ficolin FBG domain, recombinantly expressed by Brevibacillus choshinensis. Like the wild-type trimeric FBG domain, the monomeric FBG domain also requires His251, His284 and His297 for the ligand-binding activity, as judged by mutational analyses using zonal affinity chromatography. The secondary structure predicted by the backbone resonance assignments is similar to that of the trimeric FBG domain in the crystal, indicating that the monomeric FBG domain is folded correctly to perform its function.

A compact fiber Bragg grating (FBG) interrogator, integrating an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) chip, photodiode (PD) array, and demodulation circuits within an 85 × 60 × 40 mm volume, has been designed and fabricated. Utilizing what we believe to be a novel three-point demodulation technique, precise center wavelength demodulation is achieved. The conventional thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is supplanted by a look-up table (LUT) in conjunction with interpolation for temperature compensation.

We report a monolithic low-loss short-length gain-switched thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) beyond 2.1 µm. Phase-mask-assisted 800-nm femtosecond laser exposure method was used to fabricate the monolithic laser cavity on ∼10-cm long straightened silica Tm-doped fiber (TDF) after single-shot spatial alignment.

This study aims to explore the mechanism through which Yishen Jiangtang Decoction(YSJTD) regulates endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS)-mediated NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3(NLRP3) inflammasome to improve diabetic nephropathy(DN) in db/db mice. Thirty db/db mice were randomly divided into the model group, YSJTD group, ERS inhibitor 4-phenylbutyric acid(4-PBA) group, with 10 mice in each group. Additionally, 10 db/m mice were selected as the control group.

This study introduces a novel deep neural network (DNN) framework tailored to breaking the sampling limit for high-frequency vibration recognition using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors in conjunction with low-power, low-sampling-rate FBG interrogators. These interrogators, while energy-efficient, are inherently limited by constrained acquisition rates, leading to severe undersampling and the obfuscation of fine spectral details essential for accurate vibration analysis. The proposed method circumvents this limitation by operating solely on raw time-domain signals, learning to recognize high-frequency and extremely close vibrational components accurately.

We proposed and demonstrated fast light and superluminal propagation based on Rayleigh scattering-induced Brillouin random lasing resonance in optical fibers. A theoretical model of the proposed Brillouin superluminal propagation system has been established, detailing the principle of optical group velocity manipulation based on the combination of stimulated Brillouin scattering and Brillouin cross-gain modulation, for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Thanks to the randomly distributed Rayleigh scattering, Brillouin random lasing resonance with a single-longitudinal-mode lasing operation essentially contributes to fast light and superluminal propagation of the pump light signals propagating along a kilometer-long optical fiber.
