Article Abstract

We present the molecular symmetry (MS) adapted treatment of nonadiabatic coupling terms (NACTs) for the excited electronic states (2(2)E' and 1(2)A1') of Na3 cluster, where the adiabatic potential energy surfaces (PESs) and the NACTs are calculated at the MRCI level by using an ab initio quantum chemistry package (MOLPRO). The signs of the NACTs at each point of the configuration space (CS) are determined by employing appropriate irreducible representations (IREPs) arising due to MS group, and such terms are incorporated into the adiabatic to diabatic transformation (ADT) equations to obtain the ADT angles. Since those sign corrected NACTs and the corresponding ADT angles demonstrate the validity of curl condition for the existence of three-state (2(2)E' and 1(2)A1') sub-Hilbert space, it becomes possible to construct the continuous, single-valued, symmetric, and smooth 3 × 3 diabatic Hamiltonian matrix. Finally, nuclear dynamics has been carried out on such diabatic surfaces to explore whether our MS-based treatment of diabatization can reproduce the pattern of the experimental spectrum for system B of Na3 cluster.

The Many-Body Expansion for Metals: II. Nonadditive Terms in Clusters Composed of Metals with n, n, and n Configurations.

J Phys Chem A

The many-body expansion (MBE) was applied to homometallic and heterometallic trimers of metals with n, n, and n configurations to investigate its convergence, the magnitude and nature (stabilizing/destabilizing) of the individual terms and seek an understanding of their variation across the different families of clusters. In particular, we examined the series of alkali metals (Li, Na, K, LiNa, LiNa), alkali metal borides (LiB and LiB), and alkaline earth metals (Be, BeMg, BeMg, and Mg) trimers, as well as sodium clusters Na, = 2-5. We found that there is no uniform contribution (stabilizing or destabilizing) across the series in the different families of trimers.

Space-Confined Guest Synthesis to Fabricate Sn-Monodispersed N-Doped Mesoporous Host toward Anode-Free Na Batteries.

Severe issues including volume change and dendrite growth on sodium metal anodes hinder the pursuit of applicable high-energy-density sodium metal batteries. Herein, an in situ reaction approach is developed that takes metal-organic frameworks as nano-reactor and pore-former to produce a mesoporous host comprised of nitrogen-doped carbon fibers embedded with monodispersed Sn clusters (SnNCNFs). The hybrid host shows outstanding sodiophilicity that enables rapid Na infusion and ultralow Na nucleation overpotential of 2 mV.

Anion-Reinforced Solvation for a Gradient Inorganic-Rich Interphase Enables High-Rate and Stable Sodium Batteries.

Metallic Na is a promising anode for rechargeable batteries, however, it is plagued by an unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and Na dendrites. Herein, a robust anion-derived SEI is constructed on Na anode in a high-concentration 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) based electrolyte with a cosolvent hydrofluoroether, which effectively restrains Na dendrite growth. The hydrofluoroether can tune the solvation configuration of the electrolyte from three-dimensional network aggregates to solvent-cation-anion clusters, enabling more anions to enter and reinforce the inner solvation sheath and their stepwise decomposition.

Repeated cold rolling and folding is employed to fabricate a metallurgical composite of sodium-antimony-telluride Na (Sb Te Vac ) dispersed in electrochemically active sodium metal, termed "NST-Na." This new intermetallic has a vacancy-rich thermodynamically stable face-centered-cubic structure and enables state-of-the-art electrochemical performance in widely employed carbonate and ether electrolytes. NST-Na achieves 100% depth-of-discharge (DOD) in 1 m NaPF in G2, with 15 mAh cm at 1 mA cm and Coulombic efficiency (CE) of 99.
