Article Abstract

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), the most frequent malignant skin tumor observed in Caucasian adults, especially males, occurs mainly in sun-exposed areas of the body. BCC in the periungual tissues, such as proximal nail fold, nail matrix, nail bed and hyponychium, is rarely reported. We report a patient with two synchronous BCC of the periungual tissue localized in the IV and V fingernail, effectively treated with Mohs micrographic surgery.

Purpose: This retrospective study assessed the effectiveness of Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) combined with adjuvant radiotherapy for the treatment of extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD).

Methods: This retrospective study included 87 patients with pathologically confirmed EMPD and complete follow-up data who were treated at the Radiation Therapy Department of Peking University First Hospital between January 2012 and December 2021. The surgical approach for the primary lesion involved MMS, followed by postoperative radiotherapy with doses ranging from 50 to 60 Gy administered over 25-30 fractions.

Background: Bleeding remains a frequent complication during Mohs micrographic surgery, particularly among patients receiving anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy. The growing use of these medications has prompted increased exploration of adjunctive methods to improve perioperative hemostasis.

Objective: To systematically review the literature on topically and locally administered hemostatic agents used to reduce bleeding in Mohs micrographic surgery.

To observe the effects of different repair methods in the defects after Mohs surgical excision of malignant nasal tumors. Twenty-two cases of external nasal malignant tumor surgery from January 2021 to May 2024 were selected as the research. The tumors were resected using Mohs surgical technique, and the defects were repaired using forehead axial flap, bipedicle flap, nasolabial flap, free full-thickness skin graft from the groin, forehead axial flap, facial kite flap, and composite flap of earlobe cartilage and perichond.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most prevalent skin cancer and carries a favorable prognosis when treated early. Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is the standard of care for large BCCs greater than 2 cm on the trunk or extremities, given its ability to achieve a high cure rate while maximizing preservation of healthy tissue. While arborizing telangiectasias are a hallmark feature, locally advanced tumors may demonstrate more obvious varicosities that warrant more rigorous preoperative planning.

This case report describes a 62-year-old female with a history of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) who presented to the emergency department with heart failure exacerbation. She was initially diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusions and treated with thoracentesis and diuretics. When follow-up indicated a lack of improvement, an ischemic workup was ordered.
