Relationships between species composition and its environmental determinants are a basic objective of ecology. Such relationships are scale dependent, and predictors of species composition typically include variables such as climate, topographic, historical legacies, land uses, human population levels, and random processes. Our objective was to quantify the effect of environmental determinants on U.S. mammal composition at various spatial scales. We found that climate was the predominant factor affecting species composition, and its relative impact increased in correlation with the increase of the spatial scale. Another factor affecting species composition is land-use-land-cover. Our findings showed that its impact decreased as the spatial scale increased. We provide quantitative indication of highly significant effect of climate and land-use-land-cover variables on mammal composition at multiple scales.

Erythrodontium julaceum, Marchantia polymorpha, and Plagiochila bantamensis are widely distributed bryophytes in Vietnam. However, comprehensive chemical and biological data on their composition remain limited. Bio-guided isolation based on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) M inhibition was applied to these species, resulting in the identification of 23 metabolites.

The biological activities and phytochemical composition of Alchemilla daghestanica and Alchemilla minusculiflora were investigated for the first time. Methanol extracts from the aerial and root parts of both species were assessed. The total phenolic content was highest in the root extracts.

Pd-zeolites are promising passive NO adsorber (PNA) materials for mitigating cold-start emissions from lean-burn engines. However, their practical deployment is constrained by insufficient densities and dispersion of isolated Pd active sites as well as their susceptibility to hydrothermal degradation and phosphorus poisoning encountered in vehicle exhaust environments. Herein, we develop a rationally engineered core-shell Pd/SSZ-13@AlO composite, featuring a Pd/SSZ-13 core encapsulated within a mesoporous AlO shell.

Nitrogen (N) fixation with non-thermal plasmas has been proposed as a sustainable alternative to meet growing N fertilizer demands for agriculture. This technology generates Plasma Activated Water (PAW) with a range of chemical compositions, including different concentrations of nitrate (NO₃⁻) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), among other compounds. Potential use of PAW as an effective crop fertilizer necessitates a robust understanding of the underlying biology of the plant, which is not yet available.

The family , encompassing the genus and related taxa, comprises diverse Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria found in varied habitats, including air, soil, water and glaciers. Recent genomic-based taxonomic revisions have reclassified some species into new genera, such as and , due to polyphyletic relationships within the family . Certain species are known for forming biofilms or functioning as aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria, traits that enhance resilience in extreme environments like the cryosphere.
