In recent years, conjugated polymers have garnered significant interest due to their versatile optical and electronic properties, including low band gaps and strong absorption in the visible and near-infrared regions. These features, combined with high molar absorptivity and notable photoluminescence and electroluminescence quantum yields, make these materials highly suitable for applications in optoelectronics, nonlinear optics, and other advanced photonic technologies. This study investigates the linear and nonlinear optical properties of three fluorene-benzothiadiazole-based copolymers-, , and -differentiated by their electron-accepting units and polymer chain lengths.

Boraphenalenes, compounds in which one carbon atom in the phenalenyl skeleton is replaced with a boron atom, have attracted attention for their solid-state and electronic structures; however, the construction of boraphenalene skeletons remains challenging because of the lack of suitable methods. Through this study, we showed that the tandem borylative cyclization of -symmetric dehydrobenzo[12]annulenes produces a new class of fully fused boron-atom-embedded polycyclic hydrocarbons possessing a 9b-boraphenalene skeleton. The obtained compounds exhibited high electron-accepting characteristics, and their two-step redox process was reversible in the reductive region, involving interconversion of 9b-boraphenalene between Hückel aromaticity and antiaromaticity.

There is a growing demand for the development of novel solar power systems that can simultaneously solve the problems associated with both energy generation and food supply in agriculture. Green-light wavelength-selective organic solar cells (OSCs), whose transmitted blue and red light can be utilized to promote plant growth were recently reported by our group. However, the influence of wavelength variation on the photosynthetic rate in green-light wavelength-selective OSCs remains unclear.

The adsorption structure of truxenone on Cu(111) was determined quantitatively using normal-incidence X-ray standing waves. The truxenone molecule was found to chemisorb on the surface, with all adsorption heights of the dominant species on the surface less than ∼2.5 Å.

To achieve high electroluminescence efficiency, great efforts are devoted to enhancing photoluminescence quantum yield (Φ) and exciton utilization of luminescent molecule, while another important factor, light out-coupling efficiency (η), receives less attention in molecule design. Here, we focus on horizontal dipole orientation engineering of the molecule to increase η and external quantum efficiency (η). A series of tailor-made luminescent molecules consisting of an electron-accepting carbonyl core plus double electron-donating groups of spiro[acridine-9,9′-fluorene] and carbazole derivatives [e.
