Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) is a disease caused by Rickettsia conorii and transmitted by the brown dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus. It is widely distributed through southern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. It is an emerging or a reemerging disease in some regions. Countries of the Mediterranean basin, such as Portugal, have noticed an increased incidence of MSF over the past 10 years. It was believed that MSF was a benign disease associated with a mortality rate of 1-3% before the antimicrobial drug era. It was called benign summer typhus. Severe forms were described in 1981, and the mortality rate reached 32% in Portugal in 1997. However, neurological manifestations associated with brain lesions are a rare event. We describe the case of a man with fever, maculopapular rash, a black spot, and hemisensory loss including the face on the left side of the body with brain lesions in the imaging studies.

Introduction: Ticks and their associated spotted fever group (SFGR) represent an emerging zoonotic risk in Tunisia, where data on tick species distribution and pathogen prevalence remain limited. This study specifically aimed to investigate the diversity and phylogeny of and tick species and to identify and genetically characterize their associated SFGR species in northwestern Tunisia.
Methods: Tick sampling was conducted over a five-month period, from November 2022 to March 2023, in the Jouza district, Beja Governorate, northern Tunisia.

In the last decades, new tick-borne pathogens have been discovered that cause prominent neurologic disease. In this review, the impacts created by these discoveries insofar as nervous system involvement will be addressed.

The spotted wing drosophila, is an injurious polyphagous pest threatening worldwide soft fruit production. Its high adaptability to new colonized environments, short life cycle, and wide host range are supporting its rapid spread. The most common techniques to reduce its significant economic damage are based on multiple insecticides applications per season, even prior to the harvest, which reduces agroecosystem biodiversity and affects human and animal health.

Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare complication of rickettsial infections. We report a 50-y-old man from northern India who presented with fever, respiratory distress, altered sensorium and an eschar. Despite treatment with doxycycline, his condition deteriorated with multi-organ dysfunction.
