Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and β-defensins are important components of the innate immune system. This study aimed to evaluate endometrial mRNA levels of TLRs (1/6, 2, 4, and 5) and β-defensin 5 in Holstein cows by quantitative real time RT-PCR. Uterine biopsies were performed from 6 to 12 h after parturition, and cows were divided into two groups: (i) cows with placental retention and clinical signs of uterine infection until 45 days postpartum (n=10) or (ii) cows with normal puerperium (n=10). All cows had detectable levels of TLRs and β-defensin 5 mRNAs, but these levels did not differ between groups (P>0.05). Levels of TLR4 mRNA had a positive and significant correlation with the time required for uterine involution in both groups.

Gut-mitochondria is an emerging paradigm in understanding the pathophysiology of complex neuropsychiatric disorders such as Schizophrenia (SCZ). This bidirectional communication network connects the gastrointestinal microbiota with mitochondrial function and brain health, offering novel insights into disease onset and progression. SCZ, characterized by hallucinations, delusions, cognitive impairments, and social withdrawal, has traditionally been attributed to genetic and neurochemical imbalances.

Pregnancy demands dynamic immune adaptations to support implantation, fetal growth, and labor while maintaining maternal-fetal tolerance. The immune profile shifts from pro-inflammatory during implantation to anti-inflammatory in mid-pregnancy, reverting to inflammation at labor onset. Key immune cells like NK cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, and T cells dominate the decidua, guiding successful placental development.

Objective: This research aimed at evaluating the effectiveness and safety of nitazoxanide and escitalopram as adjuvant therapies in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Methods: In this randomized controlled parallel study, 90 patients with active RA were randomized into three groups; group 1 (control group; n = 30) which received traditional therapy, group 2 (Nitazoxanide group; n = 30) which received traditional therapy plus 1 gm/day oral nitazoxanide, and group 3 (Escitalopram group; n = 30) which received traditional therapy plus 10 mg/day oral escitalopram for three months. At baseline and 3 months after treatment, clinical and functional assessments were done through the 28-joint count disease activity score using C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP), the health assessment questionnaire-disability index (HAQ-DI), and the patient's global assessment (PGA).

The immune system uses a variety of DNA sensors, including endo-lysosomal Toll-like receptors 9 (TLR9) and cytosolic DNA sensor cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP) synthase (cGAS). These sensors activate immune responses by inducing the production of a variety of cytokines, including type I interferons (IFN). Activation of cGAS requires DNA-cGAS interaction.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are essential components of the innate immune system, functioning as pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) to detect pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). In hematological malignancies, particularly myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), TLRs influence inflammation, disease progression, and therapeutic response. This review highlights the prognostic relevance of TLR expression, the role of the MyD88 signaling pathway in clonal evolution, and the dual nature of TLR-mediated immune responses, either promoting antitumor activity or contributing to leukemogenesis.
