Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of (99m)Tc-MIBI myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (MPS) with adenosine triphosphate in patients aged 80 years or older.
Methods: A total of 265 patients [mean age (84.2 +/- 3.6) years old] who underwent adenosine triphosphate and rest (99m)Tc-MIBI myocardial SPECT imaging were followed-up for (36.7 +/- 22.8) months.
Results: During the period of follow-up, 57 patients (20.4%) suffered from cardiac events, including 20 major events: 5 cardiac death and 15 acute non-fatal myocardial infarction, 14 unstable angina pectoris, 7 heart failure and 16 cases undergoing PCI. The cardiac event rate in patients with fixed or mixed perfusion defects (n = 54) was 50%, which was significantly higher than that in patients with reversible perfusion defects (n = 67, 31.3%, P < 0.05) and normal perfusion imaging (n = 144, 6.2%, P < 0.01). The major cardiac event rate in patients with fixed or mixed perfusion defects was 27.8%, which was significantly higher than that in those with reversible perfusion defects (6.0%, P < 0.05) and normal perfusion imaging (0.7%, P < 0.01). Cox multivariate analysis revealed that an abnormal MPS was the most important independent predictor of major or total cardiac events.
Conclusions: (99m)Tc-MIBI MPS with ATP is demonstrated to be a powerful tool for the prognostic evaluation in octogenarian population. Octogenarians with a normal MPS have a low risk of major or total cardiac events, but when an abnormal MPS is present, the risk is significantly higher, being highest in patients with fixed or mixed perfusion defects.

In Tl myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), gastric wall uptake can impact the inferior wall. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of the masking on un-smoothed image (MUS) method for Tl myocardial perfusion SPECT. A hemispherical gastric wall phantom was created to simulate the gastric fundus located closest to the myocardium, and the activity was enclosed to achieve an SPECT count ratio against the myocardium equivalent to that observed in clinical practice.

Objective: Thalamic abnormalities have been associated with clinical and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia, yet their role in the early stages of the disorder remain unclear. This study aimed to examine and compare thalamic perfusion differences between first-episode schizophrenia (FES) and early-course schizophrenia (ECS), along with their associations with cognitive performance and symptom severity.
Methods: This study included 100 unmedicated schizophrenia patients aged 19-30: 50 FES and 50 ECS (<5 years, ≥2 episodes).

Rationale: Primary polydipsia refers to excessive water intake due to psychogenic or non-psychogenic causes without being secondary to conditions such as hyperglycemia or renal dysfunction. Most cases of primary polydipsia are psychogenic in nature, with few cases of non-psychogenic primary polydipsia reported in the literature. In this case, the patient's excessive water intake appeared to be influenced by both psychogenic and non-psychogenic factors.

Background: Intraperitoneal (IP) chemotherapy (IPC), including hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), has emerged as a promising approach to control peritoneal metastases in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. However, the safety profile and toxicity spectrum of IPC remain incompletely understood. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of hematologic and biochemical adverse reactions following surgery with or without IPC and to compare the toxicity profiles of normothermic IPC and HIPEC.

Kommerell's diverticulum (KD) combined with a right-sided aortic arch (RAA) and an aberrant left subclavian artery (ALSA) is a rare congenital vascular anomaly causing significant compressive dysphagia. Treatment options, including open surgery, thoracic endovascular aortic repair and hybrid approaches, are debated due to anatomical complexities. We report a 48-year-old female with dysphagia from symptomatic KD, RAA and ALSA, clearly delineated by preoperative computed tomography angiography.
