Article Abstract

Purpose: To report successful therapy with gatifloxacin 0.3% ophthalmic solution (Zymar) in a patient with atypical mycobacterium keratitis after penetrating keratoplasty.

Methods: A 58-year-old patient was referred for evaluation of microbial keratitis after penetrating keratoplasty.

Results: Clinical examination of the patient revealed an infiltrate at the inferior graft-host junction with a satellite lesion with a mild inflammatory reaction in the anterior chamber. Microbiologic evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of atypical mycobacteria keratitis. The corneal abscess was completely eradicated with a topical course of gatifloxacin 0.3% with preservation of graft clarity and good visual acuity. Topical treatment with gatifloxacin 0.3% was continued for an additional period of 5 months.

Conclusion: Topical gatifloxacin 0.3% may be successfully used to treat microbial keratitis resulting from atypical mycobacteria.

The practical application of conventional photocatalytic technologies in aquatic environmental remediation is significantly limited by rapid charge recombination and insufficient redox capacity. Theoretical calculations and experimental characterization confirmed that the synergistic co-doping of boron (B) and bismuth (Bi) induced tailored modifications to the band structures and Fermi level potential of g-CN (CN) and ZnInS (ZIS), respectively, successfully transforming the type-II CN/ZIS heterojunction into an S-scheme B-doped CN/Bi-doped ZIS (BCN/BZIS) heterojunction. The subsequent integration of CdZnS (CZS) into the BCN/BZIS heterojunction introduced additional type-II and S-scheme photogenerated carrier transfer pathways, thereby establishing a hybrid BCN/BZIS/CZS heterojunction.

Modern society is increasingly reliant on sustainable solutions. We suggest a creative study that meets the standards of sustainability in analytical chemistry. The objective is to promote eco-friendly methods for concurrently detecting Gatifloxacin (GAT) and benzalkonium chloride (BEN) in ocular solutions.

A new enantioselective open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) was developed employing β-cyclodextrin covalent organic frameworks (β-CD COFs) conjugated gold-poly glycidyl methacrylate nanoparticles (Au-PGMA NPs) as a stationary phase. The resulting coating layer on the inner wall of the fabricated capillary column was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and electroosmotic flow (EOF) experiments. The performance of the fabricated capillary column was evaluated by CEC using enantiomers of seven model analytes, including two proton pump inhibitors (PPIs, omeprazole and tenatoprazole), three amino acids (AAs, tyrosine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan), and two fluoroquinolones (FQs, gatifloxacin and sparfloxacin).
